** The Official ASUS P5N-E SLI & Ultra 650i Thread **

need some advice

Hi all ,
i am a new P5n e sli owner and i have been reading this very long thread with much interest .
hope its ok to ask for advice , the board i got (secondhand) had , 2, 1g memory modules but not the same speed or make so i can get it to work in dual channel mode .
i want to buy 2g of ram and was considering these 2

can anyone give me any advice on which will be best , i am not desperate to overclock but would be fun if i could , i have an E6300 CPU if that makes a difference .

can anyone recommend me some voltage settings for an E4300 at 3GHz. I've been getting some crashes and Orthos says my sytem isn't stable.

Because with 4 x 1GB sticks the board has a memory hole between about 723 and 838. That is, set it anywhere in that range and the board won't boot. Faster or slower is OK. With 2 sticks this isn't an issue. I think I saw one or two people report that a couple of the recent BIOS have fixed this, but I'm not convinced.

Mine needed 1.5V to be prime stable at 3Ghz and 1.5375V for 3.1Ghz.

Both will work fine, I've used 4 sticks of both Geil and OCZ and the Geil overclocked a lot better. I ran mine at 920mhz 5-5-5-15

2.15 or was it 2.25 can't remember the exact settings, it worked at 920Mhz 4-4-4-12 as well when only using 1 kit but not when all 4 sticks are used. I have the chipset voltage at max though.

Either auto or 1.9V would be fine if you are not overclocking your RAM.
 
Im running the same Geil in the same board and have it running @ 1000Mhz, 4-4-4-12 2T

It done that straight out of the box.

Actually, as I just put a new CPU in and current overclock even unlinked only lets me get 990Mhz, anything above goes over the 1000Mhz, but still works fine.

Im on 0703 Bios.
 
Just a heads-up, there's a new BIOS come out this month, 0803.
Literally just booted up so haven't done any stability tests, but so far it's looking a lot better than the previous couple (0703 and 0801), which wouldn't even get into Windows at my current settings (E4300 @ 3.15ghz)

Any chance you could see how far this new bios will let you push the FSB, the 0703 and 0801 realy did limit my FSB which isnt great when i have a x7
multi.
