***The Official ATI Radeon HD 5850 / 5870 Reviews and Discussion Thread***

Lol what a joke! Anand says its msrp of $380 in the states, what an utter rip off.

ATI actually have the fastest GPU for once, and will charge accordingly. Lets face it, there recent failures performance wise are the only reason for ATI's lower prices, and this proves it. Just like in the old days when they used to charge loads for there high-end cards that could compete with NV on performance.

£340-ish is still rather good, and certainly cheaper than the GT300 will be, but i expect that to undoubtedly be faster.

Give the drivers time to mature and i think the 5870 will over take the x2 by a decent margin. The gtx280 was slower than the 9800gx2 in most benches on release date but that soon changed after a good few months of driver updates. The other thing is you can no longer buy a 4870x2 as its end of life.

yeh think i will wait until there is a difference in price to reflect this.

I've added techPowerUp & HardOCP review links, also H.net single card and crossfire reviews are up on there site, but obviously canny link them.

I'm quite pleased. Very nice hardware, but not £300+ worth of nice even though my 260GTX struggles over x2fsaa at Triplehead resolutions.

My savings can breathe a sigh of relief. :-)

On the other hand... £299 seems like a fair price. Must resist long enough for the first batch to sell out.

Brilliant, they've added the protected audio path and bitstreaming of HD audio. this will make a fantastic HTPC card. :)

Shame it's noisy, 6Db louder than the 4870

ati stock coolers are always bloody noisy.

Skimming through the reviews, I really feel underwhelmed, it should hands down destroy gtx285 performance but it just doesnt.

I think we just have to sit tight and wait for dx11 to roll round before we see how good the card really is.

Dissappointing, but you still want one under the hood ya know
