*** The Official Battlefield 2042 thread***

Given the size of the maps I get the impression it was a case of 'more, bigger maps with more in them' or 'a Single player campaign that only 40% of players started and 30% of players completed in full' and the MP side won out. It didn't affect BF2 not having a campaign mode and many still say that was the best. (they're wrong though)

BF Campaign has always been lackluster, never really encapsulating the large scale warfare, very linear etc... I'm happy they're putting their efforts elsewhere.

Funny the uptake in people streaming Battlefield 4 on twitch. Not that long ago for many many months, Battlefield 4 was in single digits. Now 5.4K viewers.

A lot of people has dusted off Battlefield 4.

Graphics in BF5 are much better, I used to get 60 to 80fps at 4K medium settings in BF4 now in BF5 I get 60 to 80fps at 1440p high settings. I think I might have to drop down to 1080p in BF 2042 to get decent rates and graphics settings.

That might be because Battlefield 4 can be got for free with a Twitch Prime account at the moment

NGL I'm really loving that this game will be a prequel to 2142 like I spent a lot of time playing 2142 so I reckon I'm going to have a lot of fun with this one, hoping it ends up leaving a legacy like BF3 and BF4 did

just watched the trailer, I mean I will buy it if I have a gpu by then.. maybe I'm boring and old school but I cannot be bothered with the sheer customization of how the character looks..

Far more interested to see the gameplay footage on Sunday. Campaign mode in bf with the exception of BC2 are generally pretty meh. Though BF1 had some nice moments in it.

Yup, a waste of development time. Their campaign modes are generally very clunky as well, I doubt many even bother with them.
I guess you knew i mean *MP only*
Apparently the Modern Warfare campaign was very good, if a bit short. I guess if it doesnt distract from the game at all then why not put a quick 1 or 2 hour single player mode in.

What really does annoy me with all modern games (or most) is that you need their online service to work to even fire up the game. e.g. COD servers are down, cant get into custom multiplayer to have a game against some bots or even campaign mode. Offline mode doesnt exist

Some rumours beginning to surface about a 'Battlefield Hub' being the hidden game mode and within it are previous Battlefield games that can be played. Don't know if that's wishful thinking or which games are included. Would be kind of weird to split the player base like that though. Perhaps they'll only have one available at a time or something? Again just rumour.

Doesnt sound much like a "game mode", maybe its something where they will rotate maps from past Battlefield games into the BF2042 engine for a limited time or something, must admit theres several maps from the older BF games that I'd happily see revamped in the BF2042 engine.

I didn't actually :o only had a quick scan through the posts. Single player modes get slated badly by reviews if they’re 6 hours long, one lasting an hour or two would have reviewers howling.

sounds like a terrible idea

A short SP mode adds a bit of something to what is otherwise a pure MP game. (Whilst not distracting much from MP dev time)
BF2 received glowing reviews and had no SP campaign at all. This was because all the time could be spent making a fantastic MP game.
I can never remember one person complaining that Battlefield 2 didnt have an SP mode, probably because they were too busy enjoying the game
