*** The Official Battlefield 2042 thread***

I'll wait until it's released to see some proper gameplay before making a decision. Based on what I've seen so far I probably won't bother, but then I'm not really a hardcore BF fan - the only one I played was BC2 (and BF3 beta). In hindsight I'm sorry I missed out on BF4 though as everyone raves about it. It will also depend on what the new CoD looks like.

I'm not too keen on the focus on these different heroes or what ever they are calling them. Why can't they stick to the original BF mechanics, with engineer, assault, medic and sniper??? Just give us more control over what weapons we can spec out per class.

The instant shield is going to be VERY annoying, I just hope it has a health pool so you can lob a grenade and get rid of it.

That looks incredibly bad (shield)

Funny thing about it is the second time he deploys it around 16 seconds nothing actually happens, it seems to glitch out and not appear. And that also appears to be an official vid, not a great showcase for it.

That's because the second deploy isn't the shield...it's the APS-36 Shootdown Sentinel as DICE are calling it. Basically it takes out incoming rockets

Guys ... is it any good? Still playin bleedin BF4 and waiting....
The technical test wasn't really a good representation of how the game will be. The beta next month will be a better test. I could see there was a lot of potential, just having modern day as the setting felt so much better to me.

It would have been clipping into the other sheild and rhe slop so I think you can only deploy if it's in the clear

Can you get the beta if you pre-order? Remember they used to be buggy as hell back in the day.

I saw an clip of an MG gunner, with a Karl Gustav launcher reviving someone that was downed earlier...that's was impressive

Have they done away with the "class system" as we know it so that anyone can do anything?

Classes have been replaced by specialists, characters who have unique gadgets and traits but can carry any weapon and equipment loadout. (Specialists themselves belong to Battlefield classes such as engineer, assault, and support, but you won't play as a generic 'support' soldier.)

Specialist gadgets we've seen: a grappling hook, a health/revive gun (think Doc in Rainbow Six Siege), an auto-turret (think Team Fortress 2), a movement sensor (to catch people sneaking up on you while you're sniping), a wingsuit, and now a shield

What will likely be the most contentious change in Battlefield 2042 is the introduction of specialists. They're sort of like Rainbow Six Siege operators in that they have names, backstories, and special gadgets and abilities, but they're more flexible, because they can use any weapon you've unlocked. Battlefield class archetypes like 'assault' and 'recon' are still there, but DICE now describes them as categories which specialists fit into.

There will be 10 specialists at launch, with one new specialist released each season, and four seasons per year, so there'll be 14 specialists in total within a year of launch.

Battlefield classes have been fairly strict until now: You get themed gadgets and only certain categories of weapon. Engineer gets SMGs, recon gets snipers, support get LMGs, etc. That's all over. At launch, Battlefield 2042 will include 10 unique gadgets which can be paired with any gun. You can also change your gun attachments on the fly, allowing you to, say, swap from close to long range optics to zoom in on a sniper who's harassing you. It's way more loadout decision making than has ever been in a Battlefield game.

Here's what can be in a loadout, which is in addition to your specialist item and perk:

  • Primary weapon
  • Equipment (eg, medical crate, supply crate, rocket or missile launcher)
  • Secondary weapon
  • Throwable (eg, frag or incendiary grenade)

Some more gameplay that'll be removed soon. Tanks look a bit on the speedy side, even more so than they were in bf4.

Either there's lag in that video or the tank shells are trying to bury themselves in the ground immediately after leaving the barrel. Even having to aim up for pretty short range hits.

That grappling gadget looks mega ghey, gonna open up a whole new world for camping snipers. Also has infinite uses per life currently, i look forward to seeing an army of tarzans swinging from building to building, just hope dice include the tarzan howl.
