But surely knowing it was going to be wet, they could have got some camera hoods that only allow rain to hit the lens if it is going horizontally. That is probably the worst I have ever seen the camera lens, even going back to Adelaide GP in the late 80s.

It was going horizontally.. Half of the crowd pictures showed people with their umbrellas at 90 degrees.

WTCC is sadly becoming a snore fest. I watched both WTCC races and I was more impressed by the quality of the new Slovakia Ring track than by anything happening on it!

Pretty much the same here....was liking the hump before the corner which seemed to slightly slightly unsettle the cars. Was slightly envious if the weather after just getting back from thruxton ;) was watching it with a Slovakian friend who was complaining that he could see where all the money that was meant to be for improving the roads had gone...;)

Haha. I did think it just shows how pathetic the attitiude towards motorsport is in this country. When we get a 'new track' its just a bit of left over tarmac layed on an old airfield, meanwhile Slovakia gets an F1 spec complete circuit!

Interesting little bit of Motorsports trivia, given that Brooklands (1907) was the first purpose built motorsports venue in the UK (and the world), what do you think was the 2nd purpose built motorsports venue in the UK?

Yep, Rockingham in 2001.

Over 100 years of the UK being 'the home of motorsport' and in all that time we have had just 2 purpose built motorsport venues.

Motorsports go against the UK governments view of trying to look 'green' so gets shunned. That said all sport in this country short of Football is shunned. There are more Olympic sized swimming pools in Paris than their are in the whole of the UK, for example.

I've heard that before too. Makes me wonder how on earth our Olympic team mange to train to the high standard they are at!

Given the amount of motorsport heritage the UK has, I'm still amazed that the Govt. don't try and build on that. Think of the extra revenue it could bring in if there were quite a few high profile motorsport events going on every year. All we have is Rally GB, which is just in Wales (bring back the full RAC rally :( ), and F1 at Silverstone. (I'm aware I'm generalising a bit here, but just trying to express a point)

I think the UK has plenty of motorsports events. The difference is they are all privately funded. Most of the new F1 races for example are backed by the local or national government. Everything in the UK is done by small private companies, usually with the local or national government actually trying to prevent it happening.

My major gripe is the houses thing. Building a housing estate near a track and then putting restrictions on the track because the residents complain about the noise is just stupid. It just shows how low down on the priorities list motorsports is to most authorities :(

Just watching the WTCC from this weekend. If Plato thought there was a parity issue in BTCC over the last few years he should watch some WTCC!

How are they Chevvys allowed to maintain such an advantage? They are killing WTCC.

Edit: Just watching race 2. This is pathetic. Every non Chevvy is just a moving chicane.

Yup, the FIA were quick to slap weight on the Ford when they first entered for fears of them being too quick but they refuse to touch the Chevrolet even though it is clearly faster than all the other cars in every aspect, its quicker in the corners, quicker on the straights if i were a conspiracy theorist i would say money has exchanged hands somewhere.

I did have a chuckle in Race 2 though when they all suffered punctures, i nearly died on the last lap haha.

Probably because Chevy contribute heavily to the FIA so the governing body obviously want to keep them sweet so that funds are good. They are also one of only two teams who build their own cars from scratch so are highly thought of by those in WTCC as a whole. The other team is AON/Arena Motorsport.

The Ford's didn't have weight put on them for possibly being too quick. It was put on them because they misinterpreted the rules and regs regarding the suspension on the car and were given 3 events to put it right. They could have been not allowed to race at all if the FIA were feeling that crappy towards them. The suspension has since been rectified and the weight lifted.

Skeeter and myself were at a trackday at Rockingham Speedway on Saturday and Rob Austin Racing were there testing at the same time! Nothing gives you a sense of how quick these BTCC cars are until they go flying past you on track!

Was gonna buy the parents and myself tickets to go and see it, but didn't have enough cash. Lucky as the weekend doesn't look brilliant weather wise.

Interesting to see how Wrathall drives considering his performance in the wet last race.

Indeed. The idea that modern BTCC cars are 'just slow boring hatchbacks' is completely unfounded. They are stupid fast!
