The official canon 5d mk4 thread

I wouldn't say the sensor is up to date, it now seems where it should have been with the Mk3. It is still over 1 stop behind the competition in terms of DR. That is not too bad and for most people the sensor is a good step forwards, but what happens when next generation Sony and Nikon sensors come out with 15.5 stops DR at 54MP, the canon sensor will look very dated again because they haven't really caught up yet, just closed the gap a little.

Exactly

Time to sell all my Canon gear

Hmm don't do it :)

They might be a cliché and an apocryphal story, but remember the following...

1) The best camera is the one that you have with you :)

2) Old chap walks over to a photographer with a tripod, expensive DSLR and a host of fancy lenses. Taps the photographer on the shoulder and says "bet that takes brilliant pictures?" The Photographer replies "No it's never taken a decent picture since the day it was made". The old chap looks stunned and says "gosh, it looks really expensive surely it takes good pictures?". The photographer smiles and says "No, it doesn't take good pictures... I do."

yup.

well said. forget people here hating on Canon. let them lol

You seem to have a bit of a chip on your shoulder jonneymendoza.

Everyone here is chiming in with their feelings on the product and I can't see anyone really saying anything outrageous. I'm heavily invested in the Canon system, and I'm disappointed.

Exactly, I don't see any hate from anyone. The 5DMk4 is underwhelming, and that isn't a good thing for those people heavily invested in Canon gear, or the photographic community in general. A competitive Canon is needed to help drive on improvement with camera technology.

Jesus, just get a hardly used mk3, save thousands of pounds, and take pictures that are just as good.

Use the money saved for a trip to the Bahamas or a Caribbean cruise. Nobody "needs" these tiny little updates. Get a life.

No brainer.

You are probably not their target demographic.

The people they are after are the ones who are already heavily invested in the system and are pushing and hitting the boundaries of what the camera can do, people who can make money from it from a single or couple of jobs so it is a good investment when they last 3-4 years.

By the way, "just as good", when I am talking about hitting the boundaries, it is not the difference between just as good, it is more like getting it and don't at all.

I'm not sure that's the reason. Look at how little flow there is on TP these days and how little DSLR gear is for sale on there. I think a lot of casual photographers like me have move to other formats. Also this section of forum is dead too for likely the same reason.

Pricing isn't going to help and the pound slump.

Yup this whole section is dead m

All the forums I visit are pretty much dying the whole of the ocuk boards are nothing like as busy as they were even 2-3 years ago it's just more noticeable in sub sections like this as a small drop in post hits a smaller community hard. TP is definitely drying up and nothing like the vibrant community it was 2-3 years ago.

It's a shame but it looks like the internet forum format is in decline.

Anyway back on topic shots I've seen from the mkiv look great and I'm sure plenty of people are perfectly happy with them. It's great that canon have managed to successfully move the analogue to digital conversion onto the sensor as this has allowed them to close the gap on Nikon/sony and hopefully the next generation will be another leap on. It will be interesting if Sony/Nikon have got any big changes in the pipeline that will allow them to leap ahead or if they will be back to more incremental upgrades.

It's all about Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and social media to share photos.

A 15 year old starting out will spam social media before going on a forum which is full of texts.
