**** The Official Chinese Phones Thread ****

Fair point mate, all the Xiaomi phones I have owned the led's have been ok, bust as you said see if someone has one, or see if there are any youtube videos.
No joy on the YouTube front but I'm sure someone will pop in who has one. Never actually owned a Xiaomi myself but have always liked them and the specs to price ratio on this model seem excellent. I'm actually going to Hong Kong later in the year but really need something now.

Thanks again.

When you install custom rom and flash su root, should it install it as an app? I've tried to flash it a few times and the app won't install. Installed a root checker app and of course it said it isn't rooted. Order I did it in:

1) Flash rom
2) Flash G Apps
3) Flash su root

I'm no expert but the order I do it is install Recovery and SuperSU and reboot. Use Root Checker (Pro) to make sure it's rooted properly and install the SuperSU app (you can install both of these before rooting).

When I'm happy it's rooted properly I then boot into Recovery and flash a ROM and GApps.

Has anyone tried to secure an Android Go phone like the ZTE Tempo Go in the UK or are you sticking with the Redmi phones that seem harder to get quickly?

The ZTE sells for US $ 80 (currently £ 57) and running old Android 8.1. Google says it is aimed at the next billion users (there are 3.5 billion without internet access).

According to Verge review, "For the "Go" apps, you get "Assistant Go," "Google Go," "Google Maps Go," "Gmail Go," and "Files Go." Google also makes "YouTube Go," but this does not come packed in with the ZTE Tempo Go. This is kind of understandable since YouTube Go leans the most toward the developing-world use case."

Have you tried using Majisk v16.0 instead of SU. https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk

What phone are you trying to flash and what rom?

I'll give it a try thanks.

It's my own phone. When I manually updated Lineage, the alarm stopped working. The alarm would go off but I had no way of turning it off unless I unlocked phone and went into the clock app and manually switched the alarm off.

On further reflection I believe that ZTE is in a very poor position now in terms of sales of its Android smartphones outside China, esp in the US where it has an 11% market share.

Recently the US has banned ZTE from buying technology from US companies and this means that their ability to buy the proprietary Google Mobile Services layer needed to run their $ 80 Android Go Tempo phone (offering access to the Google Play Store) will be seriously hampered.

Mostly likely this market share lost by ZTE will be picked up by its rivals including Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and Samsung.

Hence I see the Tempo phone as not good value.

I have a redmi note 3, I would say the LED notification light is bright. But then that is me. lol
Thank you.

yeah they are bright for sure. sad to hear they are removing the different colours from the notification light in the newer versions
It's the new (mi) version I'm looking at which are indeed only white but colour doesn't bother me, I just need to be able to glance at the handset and determine quickly if I have a notification or not.

Thanks for the info.

I have to agree mate, I am loving mine and a great phone for the money.

What would you guys recommend as a replacement for Oneplus x ?
Better camera, usable disk space and similar dimensions would be factors to consider.
Budget is around £300

Once you get used to using just gestures as well its fantastic as you have the whole screen to play with.Dont think i could go back to a phone without them now i would say the battery is better than my p2 i had as well .How cool is it you set the fingerprint up on the front glass as well awesome feature.

Anyone here have a Xiaomi Note 3? Seems decent but i need something with a nice bright notification LED and can't find any mention if this fact in any reviews.

Thanks

I've a Note 3. Really great phone! The notification led is white, and not rgb. I'd describe it has a medium+ brightness. Ill try to get a photo for you in daylight. I feel like I paid more attention to my old OnePlus One's Led as I had it programmed for different colours for different apps.

Xiaomi Mi 5s has the same camera sensor (IMX378) as the Pixel and with the Google Camera port, the picture quality is excellent.
