**** The Official Chinese Phones Thread ****

So it turns out the Redmi Note 5 and Pro are the same phone except the 'Pro' version is the Indian version. Non-Pro is Chinese. Just to answer my own question on the previous page. Not that Xiaomi like to complicate things at all....

Anyway I've yet to see a global version with 6gb yet, only 4. Not sure I'll even need the extra 2gb I just want to know what sort of price to pay.

Got mine (present for wife)

Paid £135 from geek buying. It even comes with a transparent case. Phone is quite heavy.

I'm not sure how isit going to stack up against her old Moto X play, but the battery on that is exhausted.

Feel like getting myself a Mi 6X to replace the Mi5 I have.

I want the mi mix 2s, but the cheapest (factoring in vat and customs) is around £550, too rich for no warranty

5 plus arrived 20 mins ago, first impressions are fantastic for the money. Glass protector went on perfectly, case fits great and the set up was easy. I currently have it plugged into my samsung note 8 charger and the 5 plus is displaying that it is indeed fast charging too. I got the MEE7 version so giff gaff wont run at max download speeds but to be honest, she only has 1gb allowance per month and uses it more at home or tethered anyway so no deal breaker for me.
I tested speedtest app on both my note 8 and 5 plus and they were identical, the 5 plus opened and resolved the server slightly faster but to be honest as long as the performance is even in the same ball park long term I'll be over the moon.

That seems to only mention customs (which is cheap anyway), I see no mention of not paying 20% VAT if it gets inspected.

the sellers that guarantee no charges for eu customers when using dhl use a drop off point in the uk.

they first ship to this address in the uk and then from there to the customer so the customer's part is within the eu and no duty/vat is due.

the risk they take is getting it to the first drop off point with no duty/vat charge... but any charge due at that point will be their responsibility..

the none global phones don't work on band 20 so 4g will not work on o2 or vodafone... band 20 compatibility is not required to receive 4g on 3 or ee

While B20 isn't required to get 4G on EE your mileage may vary ... B20 is frequently the signal which you'll get outside of built up areas as the lower frequency does better over longer distances. For instance with a phone with no B20 I get no signal where my parents live in rural Shropshire (but absolutely fine here in Nottingham) ... but switching to a phone with B20 then I get a signal just fine at my parents.

Overnight my redmi 5 plus has developed a strange bulge near the SIM card tray . Also it looks like something maybe the battery has expanded and caused the phone to bend slightly . Time to test eBay's 30 day return policy that the seller has . Bit gutted .

Certainly looks like it, not sure if there is a global ROM for it yet.

I'm after same phone @Angerer. As I found out, the 'Pro' is just the Indian version of the non-Pro Chinese phone. If you get same ram and rom, the phones are identical. So yes that is the Pro.

Like @scrivz69 says there doesn't appear to be a global rom for it yet. You can buy the global version of the phone still though.

The one in the link is not the global version though.
