**** The Official Chinese Phones Thread ****

Good timing, literally just ordered the Mi A3 128GB. Should do nicely as her birthday present, thanks for the advice :).

I now must resist ordering LG 27GL850-B for myself....
It is a neat little phone. Its the phone I brought to try out android as I wanted to leave ios. Got a p30 now and enjoying the whole experience

So how many of you guys actually have one of the phones mentioned in this thread rather than the mainstream brands?

With so many available how do you choose?

I'm really considering switching my pixel 2xl for something different as I believe it's only getting updates until October this year which isn't a long time away.

I've looked at the pixel 4 and read all about the pixel 4a but not sure about them. The single camera seems a bit of a let down on the leaks.

Something with a regular camera and a wide angle would be ideal, don't really need a Tele.

Id like the battery to last a whole day.
90hz+ would be ideal to see what the fuss is all about.
Oled seems like an obvious choice in this day and age.

The issue I'm having is budget.

I can get a p30 pro for less than buying outright with my aim only contract. I can also Do the same with the one plus 7t.

The realme 6 seems to tick all the boxes. Also the mi9t (pro would be better but at additional cost)

Phones are annoying

So it seems Xiaomi bake some seriously questionable behaviour into their software and are collecting and uploading to their servers an astonishing amount of personally identifiable information. I’m far from a tin foil hat wearer but some of the info I‘ve been reading (starting with the below) its clear they are collecting far far too much stuff for reasons who knows what...

Saw this yesterday, big concern it has to be said, particularly in they end up getting breached and the data is stolen. It will seriously damage the brand they've build.

Like you, tin foil aside, I do question the possibility of these things being politically motivated.

It's one of the reasons I'm considering an Oppo Reno 2Z but then, they're Chinese as well, albeit once established in the Blu-ray/DVD market. Google and apple are probably up to similar too, just on a small scale. It's a tough one.

if you dont want to be tracked then use a dumb phone of old. (think 3310) whether its xiaomi, google, apple, amazon or whoever we're being tracked and our data is being harvested.

you can help yourself a little by using a VPN but aside from that im not really sure there is much you can do these days. ive privacy is a real concern then the internet is not for you.

I have the Mi9T Pro and, I have to say, its a VERY capable phone indeed - snappy and easy to use - went from a Galaxy S7 and was a significant step up

How would a VPN help in this case?

I think it's pretty much a given that data will be farmed by any of the manufacturer . In this case its more about how deep the collection is, the manner its being collected, the denials from Xiaomi and where its going geographically thats the concern. It's very clear that even with the evidence presented they are still in the 'we dont do that' camp.....which reeks of political motivation.

Whether thats a concerns to anyone is obviously down to personal choice but and judgement but I certainly wont be dropping my sim in any Xiaomi phone anytime soon given that I transact quite a bit of personal and work based finances on my handset.

Suddenly my less than a year old Mi A2 won't quick charge and is charging very slowly. Apparently it might be due to the recent Android 10 updates. Mobile has only charged from ~44% to 54% in just over 5 hours, concerning.

I had exactly the same thing with mine, it turned out to be the cable and charger I was using. Swapped out the cable and charger and all went back to normal, been fine for 2-3 months since.

Thanks for that input, phone got to 97% charge at ~1600, almost 9 hours since the start (albeit I tried tranferring official cable from quick-charge 3-pin plus to back of PC {which I know is slow-charge and a number of times I got the chimes of new usb device connecting} for a few hours late morning.

Maybe the cable got snagged at some point, will hunt for a decent priced replacement cable and quick-charger.

Anyone replaced a PocophoneF1 recently, missus has been moaning about hers even after a full reset, but not sure if/what could be available for a reasonable similar price (£265 or so from memory).

I had one which just stopped working 8 months in - returned it for a Xaomi Mi9T Pro

My son has the F1 though and its getting a fair bit of use from him with no issues at all
