**** The Official Chinese Phones Thread ****

I took the plunge with an ebay job yesterday, in the description it claims that:

"NEW STOCKS NOW COMES WITH LATEST MIUI7 WITH GOOGLE PLAYSTORE & APPS PREINSTALLED!!"

I'll recce it when I get it but I'm still tempted to flash it just incase there's any bloatware on.

I've got the same item which arrives today. What's the process for flashing? Should I just update to latest Chinese ROM? May lock bootloader though, unless it already is.

Guys, I'm fed up with my motog gen1. I want something with a better screen and a better camera. I also want a decent amount of storage/microSD slot.

What would you recommed? Redmi Note? Letv? Do they all need flashing to get Android + Playstore? I've never ventured outside the domestic market offerings so I'm unsighted on the issus of buying a Chinese phone.

Cheers

I took delivery of my RedMi Note 2 this week, and I'm really impressed. Good screen, not bad camera, SD card slot, can't fault it apart from still not being quite used to the size increase from my Nexus 5!

I got it from a UK eBay seller, and it came ready to go with the play store installed.

I would've preferred to go for the Note 3, as it has a larger battery and a better feel, but it doesn't come with an SD card slot. For that, you need to go up to the Note 3 Pro, which is a shade too close to £200 territory for me!

The Huawei P9 is being announced today. That looks like it'll be a decent phone.

I've just got mine and was about to ask you the same question!

Cant spot any bloatware on it!

If you can't see any bloat I wouldn't worry. Go on the miui forum and it will explain the process to flash. It also has the most recent Chinese ROM, you'll then just need to install the play store.

Anyone used spemall? They have the redmi note 3 pro for £167 including delivery. They also guarantee to pay back any customs charges. Not heard of them before, but a quick read around suggested they were ok. Anyone have experience of them?

Anyone who has the note 3 pro - how's the battery life? That's one of the reasons I chose it over the mi5 and other contenders. Fed up of my LG G4 battery lasting till about 6pm only.

Sound, What about if it's come with the second latest driver and playstore already installed?

I've used them to buy a tablet and they were fine for me.

TopOne are very good. Glad you got your phone ok. To flash to global rom i followed this method:

http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html

read it carefully. key things are 64bit OS and only replace the two files IF you get an error. any queries i'll try help

it does include google play etc

Maybe I should have used TopOne. Hopefully mine will be delivered quickly.

Here's some links I found in anticipation:

Unlock bootloader:

flash global rom:

note 3 pro roms:

Looks like you can unlock the bootloader without waiting for Xiaomi using the official method. And also, CyanogenMod 12 and 13 seem to be working on this phone.

Having a go now.

Only have a mac but found a link to flash rom via terminal (fast boot) method.

Wish me luck.

edit: had a go but it says device is locked. Will try with a Windows 10 64 bit machine and the official programme.

Right, spent about 5 hours on this last night.

For anyone buying the eBay variant of the redmi 3 (not note) the bootloader is locked which makes life v difficult.

The only way to flash (which is I still haven't managed to achieve) is to put the phone in download mode (vol up plus power).

Then use a programme called miflash on a windows 64bit machine. You have to download the latest stable Chinese fastboot drivers and get the miflash programme to point to them.

I made some progress last night but had port errors. Will attempt again soon when I have access to the machine.

Nightmare.

**ignore you have redmi not redmi note**

did you try the fastboot method i linked previously?

http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html

I did it this way and it took about 15 minutes. mine was a sealed box so i was starting from the official chinese rom. check what rom you starting with as that can cause issues if the reseller flashed a rom on to it.

did yours come with google play store?
