Anyone tried overclocking these on the stock heatsink, is it the same old one they always supply and is it any worth keeping around at all?

Not really advisable I wouldn't thought if overclocking,

Intels stock cooling has always been pap IMO.

Im Sure most people will go "OMFG"

the dfi board seams very good out of box have you had any problems yet?

some 3d stability tests would be nice

i just updated the bios to the 707, even though i had it boot into windows at 422 fsb with the 621, i think the ocz gold is not too happy abut that at 2.1v, + the cpu was getting really warm lol. What is a safe amount of volts to stick up the ram?

I only have a fx5200 pci card at the moment so i dont think 3d is an option yet ;)

oh yeah, the northbridge needs active cooling, i saw it hitting 65 degrees on load

But he could be under rating the actual ram couldnt he, just the fsb and bus speed there which is basically the cpu & mobo. So a cpu:ram ratio of 2:1 (if thats possible) is only 300mhz

The bus speed is the reason for the excessive northbridge heat I take it?

Check out the board cooling they used for the gigabyte :

Maddness, do you mean that the Northbridge needs a fan or just a new heatsink? (ie would one of the zalman northbridge coolers work with it?)
How loud is the stock Northbridge cooler btw?
Thanks.

The Stock NB heatsink is silent cause its passive.
Wouldn't of thought the zalman would be any better than the stock.

He said the NB could do with active cooling this means a fan or better still water.

K.I.T.T have your cured your instabilty problem ?
Well...so far it's been OK since last night, but still occassionally plays up :(

But I really think its a buggy BIOS rather than the MoBo itself....Last afternooon, it wouldn't even boot at 370 x 7, and now its priming at 400 x 7.

Weird if you ask me

the dfi doesnt have active cooling, just a bog standard sink which does get very warm without active cooling. I got it down to 45 with a 60-amber on low settings.

I think its the board rather than the bios. I cant get over 410FSB on this new one no matter which bios. Ive even tried a new beta 0604. Seems other people on XS are finding this too.

All Asus's arent made equal :(

How are your team sticks doing?

i cant seem to up the volts on them nor change the timings
ive only tried it with the 621 bios not the 707.
I could swear i read you were having similar problems on the asus.

My team sticks are fine its my replacement asus whiich is the problem. Its prime stable at 410 fsb but wont even boot at 415. My other asus does at lest 450.

Im priming at the minute with the team sticks @ 2.1v
