***The Official Core i3 Overclocking Thread***

Had it running 3.7 with bit less than stock volts :)

And, by mistake, last night I was running it at 3Ghz with less than 1.0V! Not sure if it was stable cause was testing memory OC at that point not realising had left voltage on CPU so low.

Certainly booted into Windows and ran prime for a little while with that. Did blue screen eventually, but like I said, could have been memory.

Even when aiming high with these the power consumption is low.

Just not sure am going to get the 4.4Ghz. Will require more than 1.35V and not sure I want to push further than that. Whereas I think can get 4.2 with around 1.275V - busy testing this now. Just not worth it for extra 200Mhz :(

Oh well, currently testing small fft's in prime at 4.2 and temp currently 55 with Coolermaster Hyper TX3

Just want to find something stable and fast, close my pc, and not worry about fiddling with bits for some time :)

Changed any other settings for that? looks like you got a good chip to get 4.2 at those volts.

Mine takes 1.3 to do 4Ghz.

Prime crashed, so at 1.28 now.

Could get 3.8 at stock (1.175) so pretty sure I could get 4Ghz at 1.2 or thereabouts.

Thing is, if I was going to stick to 4Ghz or lower I needn't have bothered with buying a cooler. And having jsut said that, I am tempting myself to push for the 4.4Ghz again. The cooler would simply be a waste of money otherwise :D

Think a little over 1.35 will be safe for 24/7 usage?

Have settled on 4.2Ghz at 1.3V. Not as low as I'd hoped, but not too bad. Coming up on 4 hours prime stable now - am going to settle for 4 hours cause I get so bored with testing, and want to start using my PC again :)

CPU fan not running at full so is quiet and absolute max temp reached was 60 C, which will do fine, and leaves some leeway for warmer temps in the summer.

Will post a screenie later of when it hits 4 hours, even though most of you consider 8 hours a "proper" test :)

Hey guys got my system finally.
i3 540
GA- P55 UD3
Intel X25 80GB SSD + 1.5 TB samsung HDD
Smart Tech ram 1600MHz (anyone heard of them?)
Coolermaster V8 CPU Cooler
Ultra 750watt PSU, (is this overkill?)

Right now im running stock voltage at 3.45Ghz, 23x150, anyone got an idea how much I should raise the CPU voltage for a 4GHz overclock? System seems so quick, loving my SSD, cant wait to see how fast I can crank it up. Anyways, if anyone has time espically in reference to the CPU Voltage for 4ghz it would greatly help, this is my frist overclock. Reading over this thread helped convice me to go for the i3 as my first OC, seems like a real wolf in sheeps clothing. 4 cores woulda been nice as I am a heavy multitasker, but I like the idea of 4ghz without having to push the CPU or stress it to hard.

I'm getting 4.2ghz at 1.3v...

Currently underclocking my RAM so I'm going to try and stretch its legs a little knowing that 4.2ghz is cool and stable on the CPU.

I am going i5 but can't afford it yet so I bought an i3 530 as a stopgap chip :) Will have it up and running this weekend hopefully.

Cooling will be on a Cogage Arrow with a 120x38mm Yate Loon....hopefully I can get 4.5GHz as that's what my old E8400 hit :D

Well, I got slightly better cooling for mine, and am currently on 4.4GHz at 1.37V. Though still playing.

Max temp is 62. Tempted to go for 4.5 too. Should be able to manage it on 1.4V.

Guess I can be a guinnea pig to see how long it lasts at 1.4V :D

Wow, those guys are putting some crazy voltage through the chips :)

Anyway, had a quick blast at 4.5, and not quite happening at 1.4V which was as high as I was willing to go.

Oh well, my original intention was wimply to have the blck running at 200 to have my memory at 1.6GHz and CPU at 4.4, which runs well at the 1.37V.

For cooling I have an Akasa Nero V2. Before I had a hyper tx 3.

I don't mean to offend, but I didn't think the Akasa Nero was better than the Cogage Arrow, otherwise I would have purchased that one.

Offend?

Not sure what you said that I should have taken offense to.

Anyway, am quite impressed with the Nero. I went for it because it was abou the best I could find that didn't require fitting a backplate.

PS - Oh I see, what I typed look like I was saying I got better cooling than you. What I meant was I got better cooling than I had :D

ffallic which batch code is your CPU, what VID?

My P7P55D Deluxe just arrived and OMG it looks so awesome. Just waiting on the i3 to arrive... a bit peeved as I ordered my Cogage Arrow the night of the 17th...but it is still in the warehouse queue!! And really odd as I ordered the i3 after that on the day of the 18th and it was dispatched almost instantly and should be here today.

Cooler is not coming until tomorrow or Monday. FFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

i3 530 on a P7P55D Deluxe with STOCK COOLING. What a sad sight :(

So what kind of temperatures should I be worried about?

81C on 1 core and 77C on the other, I figure that's probably about the max safe temp for stress testing seeing as the rated tCase max is 72.4C?

bahh the stock cooler sucks.

Also what sort of vcores are people using for 4GHz? Currently on 1.200V and 4013Mhz (182bclk) and so far seems stable.

VID is 1.100V which seems pretty good

Got my Cogage installed...this thing is MASSIVE! Also this chip seems to run very hot, perhaps because of the low VID :(

Anyway here's my effort at 4.2GHz...will try for 4.4GHz in a bit
