Two quick basic questions -
Can you overclock with speedstep enabled?
If you do, will it still scale the speed back when not needed?
I'm planning to go to town on my new i5 on an ASUS P7P55D PRO with CM Hyper 212+ for cooling. Max temp at stock fully loaded is 40C so there's a lot of room.
Ah cheers. That's good news. I wasn't keen on it idling at 3.6 or whatever if not needed.yes you can, i have it enabled
yes it does, mine idle is about 1.8Ghz and load is 4.2GHz
Looks like there will be more i5 chips coming soon. My Asus P7P55D had a new BIOS out last week which supports new chips but doesn't list them yet.
Conclusion
Let's keep it simple: the Socket 1366 platform is obsolete. The turbo modes are very limiting and the three channel memory setup gives only a slight advantage. Of course, Socket 1366 CPUs don't come cheap either. The quite new i5 CPU is much easier to overclock and it's not that hard to achieve higher memory speeds.
Mines currently running at 3.9Ghz but I will try for 4.0Ghz tonight.
I've got my cpu @ 1.3v, is that regarded as 'ok' or is it quite high?
Temps are not too bad so I am not too worried about it tbh. I am currently still trying to find the ideal/safe/stable volts and cpu speed.

Just tried 4.0Ghz and after half hr of use, so far so good. All on the H50 Cooler.![]()
Seem to have a problem getting core 3 stable craps out after about 20 mins more jiggawatts required? at 1.35v atm actual load
