The official Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP Thread

can anyone verify?

"- tested using a DVI-HDMI adapter, with HDMI cable into the Dell (this was suggested in the review from monitortest.blogspot.com). My results? The input lag now appears to be very close to the 2005FPW. Still there, but significantly reduced when compared to the DVI, on my setup. Mind you, I'm already at a disadvantage with crossfire frame rendering delays, so YMMV, but with performance HDMI, this means my concern had been addressed and I am much relieved. Using HDMI has a disadvantage for me for calibration, meaning now I have to do it using new numbers, but using softMCCS (recommended on these forums, and thanks, this worked nicely) makes this super fast and not a big issue."

Still need to wait a good few weeks before we will get a hint of them hitting uk shores I bet. especially as there so random in the US still.

Im seriously doubting if this monitor is my best choice now. I just want a monitor with minimal input lag as im a casual gamer, good viewing angle for my movies/tv and a monitor that looks stunning. I really want this monitor, however with its current issues im just not sure its the best choice.

I hope one of the guys with the new firmware gets round to testing it.

Well you could consider getting a 2709 in which case, it's only about £35-40 more than the 2408 and has lower input lag and all the same connections :)

Granted it is 3" bigger but its a very nice screen and I think I will save the extra and get one over a 2408 like I was going to do!

so whats the reuturns policy on these monitors then ? if theres no apparant fault other than input lag or what not ?

i am finding myself getting creamed in fps games atm as i dont seem to be able to move as quickly as on my 19" crt

Just because your input lag is not what you desire then you wouldn't be able to return it (providing you had it for over a week). You need to actually have a tech problem with it ;)

You bought your monitor the same time I did, at this time OcUK advertised the monitor as rev A01 and confirmed this to a number of forum members. If you received a rev A00 monitor contact OcUK asap an request a return under the 'Sale of Goods Act' ie, they did not deliver the product they advertised.

Post back if you have any problems.

OcUK website said A01 at the time of order, if you're in the same situation as I, the box says A00, the sticker on the back of the monitor says A00, the on screen sharpness menu option increments in steps of 25 (A01 increments in steps of 10, or so I hear), my monitor was manufactured in May, A01 has just been released.

I have no bone to pick with OcUK, I'm sure the situation was nothing more than a mix up. At the end of the day the choice is yours, if you can live with the quirks it is a damn fine monitor, but it's a lot of money wasted if you're not truly happy.

The other option is to wait a few weeks and gamble on a replacement from Dell, they appear generous in this respect and you could end up with a good deal. Or they could refuse as the monitor 'is within spec'.

As for me, I'm giving my old CRT the great big hug it deserves every night, all 30+kg of it :)
