The official Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP Thread

I'm actually somewhat disappointed that Dell have obviously found a way of retrofitting monitors with new firmware which fixes the lag issues (as proven by the statement that refurbished units will get it rather than just new ones) yet they're not willing or able to offer this service to existing customers.

I have a 2408 at work and the lag can be quite disconcerting at times, even in standard Windows use. I was thinking of trying to kick up enough of a stink to get them to send me a new replacement but if all I'd get is a refurb then I'll just live with it tbh. Just glad I've got a totally problem free (touch wood) 2407 A04 at home - the pinnacle of Dell's 24" efforts.

I agree with the sentiment regarding Dell's retrofit and the whole REV A01 business. The news of a potential REV A01 was leaked early on TFT Central which has now changed to a retrofit, although I'm still not convinced - no one has yet reported or received a retrofit model.

I'm not a gamer and had assumed that lag was only a gamer thing.

How does lag manifest itself in normal windows use ?

thanks

We do not use our screens for gaming and do not have any issue or any noticeable problems regarding input lag. although we're not using anything that's fast moving other than standard video clips

That was the older 2407WFP-HC problem with the overdrive Circuitry this did not affect the 2408WFP

Nope, the 2407-HC was a problem with the overdrive in that you had a dark trail after moving, I'm saying with the 2408 you move and....nothing for a few frames, then finally the pointer moves.

I just think Dell could not have made this situation more confusing if they tried.

There are some people who got a sticker saying A01, but that's for refurbed revised ones. The new monitors will still say A00.

Confusing or what.

Hi all,

I called in the shop on Saturday for a few bits and pieces and spoke to the shop staff regards the 2408 and the firmware isssues that seem to be dragging on, my question was that if I stumped up my £400 pounds would he gaurantee that I would get a new revised model and his answer was.."no"... I asked why and he said without opening all the boxes he would not be able to tell which model had the new upgrade, I said it is reported that the version is marked on the box but he replied that they had mixed stock and could not gaurantee the firmware, at that I left.

I can not believe this I have £400 pounds burning a hole in my pocket to buy a gaming and all round monitor and I am struggling to find one that any one recomends other than TN panels.

Save up a bit more and go for the new Hazro, mrk has got his and it's even better than the first revision input lag wise!

No one has any revised 2408WFP's according the Forums initially they were going to release a REV A01, it was then reported it would be a revised model carrying a new Dell part number all current 2408WFP's are part CX268 marked on the outside of the box on the original packing label, which also carrys the revision number. It was then reported that the only way to tell if it has new firmware is by checking the sharpness settings on the OSM.

So much confusion on this thread, can a Don or someone similar just post exactly what the situation is regarding these A01 revisions?

Just ordered one of these, had an e-mail for a 10% discount on any order from OC and total price with delivery is just a tad over £350. I play the odd game, but I mainly use it for Programming work. I currently have a 2407 (with a broken power on button on the front panel) and a 19" CRT. The CRT is getting binned and replaced with the 2408.

Has Dell fixed the power button problem that affected the 2407, as I don't want two monitors with the same problem?
