The official Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP Thread

Just received 2 of the new model 2408WFPb's they are being sold by another seller with a dead pixel guarantee.

They carry a new part number as mentioned on TFT Central they are label 0G286H REV A00 replacing the previous 0CX268 REV A00. Interesting Dell are reworking all factory refurb's 2408WFP with new firmware and sending them out as CX268 REV A01

For new orders they will ship a new model 0G286H I'll be running an input lag shortly once I can find a CRT in our office!

Did you get those from ocuk?? if not what sort of price range where they and were they advertised as the new A01 revision?

Cheers

No not OCUK they cost us £391.28 inc 3 year warranty and 3 year dead pixel guarantee (for 3 years!) they are advertised as "New Firmware model in stock now!"

I need a link to run the input lag test they look superb i'll post pics in a mo

if sharpness is only in 25 incremements, it's prob still the old firmware

hey baddass,

sort of OT but since you're the tft man, what monitor would you recommend instead of this, since I'm looking to get one for around < £400.

Hoping to get one soon with my 10% voucher

Cheers

depends on the use really i guess. The Dell is still a great screen, i wouldnt be put off too much by the "issues" depending on your uses. The Hazro HZ24Wi is also very good, and there's some more cost effective offerings like the Samsung SM245B, OcUK Value 24" and BenQ's new models if you want to save money

Badass how do i check what TFT type is used in this model as I curious to see if it has the same panel , what with it being a different part number - I know there's an option somewhere to bring it up but can't see any menu option from the OSD

These shipped 22/8/2008

Link to box part no (screen images following shortly) http://www.flickr.com/photos/84297344@N00/2802565339/

the service menu doesnt list panel manufacturer or part any more on Dell screens, but all the 2408WFP's use the same Samsung S-PVA panel, thats for sure. PRob just got a different supply line or from a different factory there.

anyone know if I get a A00 revision now will I be able to upgrade the firmware to the A01 revision?

definitely not

I really want to get this monitor but the fact there is a newer version (A01) makes it harder to pull the trigger :(

THe other monitor I was looking at was the Hyundia W240P PVA monitor which is around £30 cheaper.

Another option is to get one of those cheap 24" PVA monitors for around £220 delivered but I'm not sure how good the warranty on those are.

Any views on this monitor?? or should I just get the Dell and not worry about the A01 revision.

P.S main use of the monitor would be for uni work (programming, writing reports), viewing movies and tv shows and some gaming (probably CSS, TF2 and Left4Dead, maybe some other FPS).

Cheers.

I just got this monitor, A00 unfortunately. But fortunately, unlike most make it out to be, the input lag is undetectable, even in a game like crysis. The only problem MAY be in multiplayer.

I couldnt wait any longer, and ordered my whole new PC including the Dell 2408 on Friday given that I had 10% off.

Monitor turned up on Saturday and it was the A00 version (with 25% jumps on sharpness) :( No matter how many times I asked OcUK for A01, they said they couldnt guarantee anything (which I now take to mean that they dont have any).

I think I can detect a bit of Input Lag, although it's nowhere near as bad as I was expecting after all the comments on this board and others. It is a stunning looking display.

Luckily I seem to have a dodgy pixel right in the middle of the screen, and a scratch (noticed it as soon as I too the protective sheet off the front), so I am going to get it replaced by Dell (I hope). I will a demand a A01. :D

Wish me luck.

Good luck! Make sure you let us know if dell send you a A01

Well just to let you know... Dell sent through the replacement model today.
The one I was sending back was 0G268H Rev A0, the one I have now CX268 Rev A0.
This is where someone tells me I did have the updated one to start off with (although it didnt have the sharpness increments of 10, still 25, and it had a scratch in the screen so had to go back anyway).

Really confused by the whole part number thing, but I'm guessing this is yet another 'old' version. Why are Dell still shipping these out ?

I'll confirm it for definite when I get home but I am expecting it will have the sharpness increases of 25, and to probably have more input lag than the last one.

<sigh>
