Where is all the phat loot 
Is using Strange Coins the quickest way of getting decent loot? As the black market trader (on weekends) apparently has good (and cheap) weapons?
Looking at a full armor set with one weapon (from the Vanguard dealer), you would need 465 Vanguard Marks... over a month of grinding

All the gear I have (apart from the chest that I purchased) was from drops, so not sure about the quickest way but I just played the game as I wanted really.
Have you had any legendary/exotic drops? Best I've got is rare at the moment (level 21 now).
Also, does the Cryptarch get higher level weapons once he has been levelled up? Mine is level 2 I think, but only produces level 18 max weapons.
Yeah I have full legendary and 1 exotic and all but 1 come from drops or rewards at the end of strikes etc.
Getting you rep up to lvl 3 with a faction will also get you a legendary, or at least it did for me.
Awesome! And once you've selected a faction and got a piece of their armor, you get points for that faction instead of Vanguard rank right? So from Patrol missions as well?

Yeah, reputation earned from vanguard or crucible goes there instead.

Can anyone give a run down on how the light levels work after level 20? The tooltip in game says equip armour pieces with the +Light on them. I've got two bits which give +2 or 3, but the little bar hasn't moved up.
Does the light level remain even after changing to another armour piece with more light on it?

No, it will drop if you remove the armour or equip something with less Light on
Has anyone come across an explaination of how PvP matchmaking works? I ask because I am struggling to keep a 1 kdr in this, yet every other fps I am usually around 1.5. I am usually playing in a party though with players better than I, so I am wondering if I end up in games against better players as a few games of control on my own yesterday saw me getting 2.5-3 kdr's and ~ 5000-6000 points a game (rather than 2000-3000). It might be random players all the time but got me wondering as to if there is a PvP ranking system somewhere in the background that we don't get to see.
I didn't realise there was a black trader of weapons, will have to check them out at the weekend and see what they offer. Do you know if they are always in the same place or is it random location in the tower?
To be honest you grind it out like that but probably in the month of grinding you would expect to get at least a couple of legendary items. I hit level 20 only on Saturday I think and already have 2 legendary items from drops.
From memory, things start showing up at 18 but you can't access them until 20 and I think that you can't select a faction until 20. I chose FWC (Future War Cult?) but I was torn between New Monarchy and FWC as it was a choice between super + melee or super + grenade.

Buy something from the vendors. Wear it to earn rep to buy better gear (PvE, PvP, missions and bounties).
Depending on your play style:
•Dead Orbit: DIS/STR (Melee and Grenades)
•Future War Cult: INT/DIS (Grenades and Super)
•New Monarchy: INT/STR (Super and Melee)

You need to buy their class armour and equip it, its around 2250 Glimmer. Have to be a high level I think.
