*** The Official Diablo III Thread ***

Just came back to the game after not playing in years, managed to smash a wizard to paragon 200 in about 2 days but I have grown bored and turned to barbarian.

What build should I be going for? ive got a couple pieces of raekor and immortal.

conveniently, the best barb build is immortal raekor.

So just had this badboy drop, but not sure whether a damage % or +disc reroll is the optimal choice. Anyone know the maths to answer categorically please?

+ % damage
0% to 10% = 10% extra damage
6% to 10% = 3.77%
7% to 10% = 2.8%
8% to 10% = 1.85%
9% to 10% = 0.92%

disc
0 to 12 = 15.86%
9 to 12 = 3.54%
10 to 12 = 2.33%
11 to 12 = 1.15%

ias
0 to 7% = 7%
5 to 7% = 1.9%
6 to 7% = 0.94%

Damage range (assuming your initial blue damage range is somewhere near these examples; max range means 1560-1940)

1318-1609, roll to max range =14.75% damage increase (worse case)
1340-1650, roll to max range =12.9% damage increase
1380-1700,roll to max range =10.4% damage increase
1415-1750,roll to max range =8.1% damage increase
1450-1800,roll to max range =5.9% damage increase
1470-1840,roll to max range =4.4% damage increase
1480-1850,roll to max range =4.0% damage increase
1510-1875,roll to max range =2.6% damage increase
1530-1900,roll to max range =1.6% damage increase

Though i personally would IF UE take discp as it equates to a bonus 40% dmg that really isn't correctly factored on the above.

Thanks for the numbers, I assume they do take into account the bonus damage from disc as I'd assume thats what the percentage indicates (ie, gong from 10-12 disc is a 2.33% increase in damage when factoring the UE set bonus)

A month to find a BiS end game item wasn't an exaggeration, I remember it took bigdaddydden about 2 months to find an SMK one season.

No rose tinted glasses here, a lot of people agree that gearing now is way too fast and easy. Yes it's about the end game content but finding BiS gear is fun but it doesn't feel that way now when you can be fully geared within 3 days with some luck.

I too agree it is fast to gear now, certainly than in the past but I feel in the past was to long too.

Gearing isn't meant to be the focus now. It's all about pushing greater rifts. If someone takes a month to find an item that defines the most powerful build, then RNG has deprived them of the ability to compete.

I'm not saying I necessarily agree with this, but it's how the game is designed at the moment.

I think there are many points of focus with D3 now. I also enjoy it more than its original release.

Greater rifts are all about RNG, it's just a case of who can fish the best rift and get lucky with pylon timings.

I mean people quit them straight away if they aren't 1 of the 8 mob types that are worth pushing through.

Also the ability to compete rests a lot on if you can continue putting in 12+ hours a day to keep your paragon going. Not much to do with gear as that would come in time with that amount of hours.

There is some truth in this but I think it applies to such a small minority of the D3 players who want the very top of the ladder and if that's the case then so be it. I don't think there is any game that is perfect in every way. I think generally the way D3 is now is really good. The devs really pushed this in a nice direction. What's important is whether you enjoy D3 now, if you don't then you should play something else.

But ofc no harm discussing past/current states of the game.

is there away to tell what level rift your or greater rift?

I set it to public, set the difficulty and click on join and I end up in one of the camps and a rift starts but I never know what one it is apart from how easy it is or too hard and keep dying lol

Can't help but think once the Leapquake barbs get godly gear they will beat Immortal Raekors. Leapquake has so much more survivability and is a pull Monk for no reason so it can group and disintergrate trash like no other. The Raekor will get through elites and Guardians faster, but when pushing for the maximum greater rift possible, it's all about getting good pilons, lots and lots of trash mob density and Hamelin.

We'll see, but my money is on Leapquake, Raekors is insanely squishy and needs that 1 in a million rift to push it's maximum potential, Leapquake is as flexible and tanky as it gets. I also think Raekors will last about 2 seconds vs Hamelin, who is the guardian you NEED to get to push your character above it's approx GR maximum. He's the new Stoneboy.

Another wee update - soloed G64 the other day, then spent about an hour today trying to get the "mastery" one pretty much the easiest wizard set dungeon - grrr these are going to be the bane of my existence lol

Haven't had Hamelin on any of my solo GR pushes, I always end up with the annoying ones but my pets do all my damage as WD so I can just run around when the animations start for casting their abilities.

Eskandiel is a ******* nightmare on high GR's.

I managed to get this tonight

The Mortal Drama

shall I use it in as my primary weapon or in the cube?

my main weapon before was

the sultan of blinding sand

No it does not factor it in properly i think. from experience on DH i can tell you that discipline is 100% the way forward with UE even if it looks like it's not going to yield as high a gain as something else.

Whichever one is better, for the moment. You'll end up moving to a 1 handed weapon later on at which point The Mortal Drama goes in the cube.

ty, ill keep it as my main for the time being.

when i find a better 1 handed weapon as this is what I'm after (passive skill decreases damage by 20% which i only recently found out!) ill use that then use this in the cube

Depends which build you are going for, but you'll want stuff like Hack, Pig Sticker and Doombringer. Heavenly Strength does decrease damage by 20% but you can still use a shield so it's not so bad.

I'm currently using the invoker set you get for the crusader

also one of the objectives is to open a GR20 and complete is solo, does anyone know how to open a GR 20 as when you start a rift it only asks if you want a normal rift or a grift

When you select greater rift it opens a drop down where you can select the level. Depending how fast you complete the highest available will determine how many new levels become available.
