You can only lose the items you haven't extracted.....you never lose any vendor gear or stuff you've previously extracted or dropped from outside the DZ.

Best way to gear up is killing NPCs in the DZ and killing rogue agents.

Until the full game is out it is relatively unknown whether you can accomplish everything without ever entering the DZ (missions may require you enter or specific gear might only be available from DZ vendors / random drops).

I think it will be fair to say that you can certainly play the game without entering the DZ (not sure how the future DLC plays into this) but you may not get the full experience.

I imagine we will see less "griefing" this time around (compared to the closed beta) as Massive have stated that NPC's have been significantly increased / difficulty increase thus there should be more of a co-op atmosphere. The main problem with DZ in the closed Beta was the lack of well anyone to kill beyond a handful of NPC's. As the beta draws to a close there will be the inevitable "blood bath" almost team death match feel to the DZ but this will hopefully not translate into the same feeling in the final release.

Midday in the UK i think. Though I read yesterday the Sony were launching an open PS Plus weekend so the servers will no doubt take a pasting this weekend.

Edit: Also think Destiny are taking the servers offline at some point for maintenance so expect disruption on the Division beta...

I literally only played about 10 minutes in the dark zone. I was running by lots of people in white who were ignoring me. It wasn't until someone in red literally came up right beside me and then I panicked. I thought "He's red, he's going to kill me, I better kill him first." So I killed him (which turned out in the end to be stupid because he didn't fire a shot) and then I got killed by another red person and lost my loot that I'd picked up from killing a yellow boss. So I had a moan and quit at that point. :D

I don't understand this extraction thing though - are you supposed to kill people who are extracting or just be a nice guy and let them be? I guess it depends if you want to be a pirate or not. ;) But how do you extract? Is it on a timer that just appears periodically and when it does you leg it to the helipad?

I'm sorry if these questions have all been answered in the previous pages!
 
If you get to an extraction point you can call in an extraction yourself.. it comes in 90 seconds and there is a 30 second delay before the extraction takes place.
 
This might be silly question of the month but are you able to go into the Dark Zone without Xbox Live gold? I can't make up my mind as to whether to buy this or Quantum Break but either way, I'm not renewing my XBL sub.
