***The Official E2140/E2160 Overclocking Thread***

I can't seem to push this baby past 3240 mhz. It will post (can even post easy at 3.4ghz, temp doesn't seem to be a problem btw) but just not boot into windows, at the loading bar it just stops.... have downed it to 1:1, still no luck, even tried Vcore up to 1.6, upped the MCH voltages, won't work :( 360mhz fsb works but not 362 lol :( damnit

i tried to get up to 3.3ghz last night. had to ramp up the vcore from 1.33v (bios) to 1.39v and temperatures soared from 55degrees at 3.2ghz to 67degrees. not sure the extra 0.1ghz is worth 12 degrees increase in heat.

it was orthos stable for a couple of hours at least but it crashed at some point during the night while i was in the land of nod!

i think i'm just going to stick with 3.2ghz.

Have you locked the PCI-E frequency at 100 in the BIOS or left it at Auto?

If you locked it at 100 try setting it to Auto instead and it should be fine on that as it should automatically keep the frequency well within spec. Also you can use Clockgen to find out what the BIOS has auto chosen for the PCI-E frequency.

I am having some joy with my E2180. Currently running orthos at 3.4. Will test further for stability and maybe try a little higher.

Very impressive at the voltage and temp shown. What mobo is that with and what cooling are you using for the cpu pls? So far I've had to use 1.5v to get 3.4GHz stable on my Asus P5K-E and temps are mid 60s.

I am using a Tuniq on the CPU and the motherboard is a Gigabyte P35 DSR. Voltage was actually set at 1.425 in the bios but after drop and dropp shows as 1.36. Orthos actually failed a couple of hours later unfortunately. I am sure a touch more voltage would do it but I might just put the brakes on a touch an go for a cooler 3.2Ghz for 24 hour use.

can anyone tell me what is likely to be the problem, I can't get my E2160 past 3240Mhz. It's rock stable at 3240 but 1mhz past that it just won't boot into Windows.

Is it more likely to be FSB wall or is it a CPU wall?
Regards

Just Built my new E2180 ring with 8800gt and P5Ke mobo. All i can say is WOW. But coming from a P4 northwood, i expected that :D

8989 3D06 with everything at stock. cores at 22/20 degrees idle, 39/37 degrees load, using tAT.The Noctua 12 is awesome. Quiet and room for more clock :D

Just upped fsb to 250, cores at 25/23 idle , 43/41 load. 9872 3D06:)

So, a couple of questions for the mad clockers amongst you. My ram is Geil 6400 800mhz low latency.

Do i have to lock any other frequencies while messing with fsb? (Pci-e for example) I remember having to lock AGP/PCI on my old system. Do i have to alter any memory settings?

Not too bothered about messing round with voltages, and i have no idea as regards memory timings etc. I can`t seem to find a simple guide as regards what i should and should not touch. I was happy with the system at stock TBH, but curiosity got the better of me. Am i better just using the FSB to OC and leave it at that? I am not after breaking any records, (boring i know), but i cannot believe how cool this thing runs.

Any simple help would be appreciated.

Well not gonna win any prizes. bloomin ram wont let me go any further, although that's not what is annoying me, the complete lack of a divider option on the P5K is..

anyway

You can't put the FBS : RAM in 4:3 mode or something like that? It's available on most motherboards, and probably just named different. can't imagine the P5K doesn't have an option for that.

Not as far as i can see, it says "the dram speed is selected by the FSB strap and the FSB blah blah"

and then has a list of pre-set if you like ram speeds which increase as the FSB does but decrease as the FSB strap increases.

So if i set the strap to 333 that allows me to choose the lowest ram speed possible, but still limits me to only 333mhz fsb before ram starts going over its rating. :(

Picked an E2140 up recently and have paired it with a Fatal1ty F-190HD motherboard. I went straight in at 250FSB (hardly die hard I know) and it seems happy at that. Any idea what I could expect to overclock this to?

Most clock in the region of 2.8ghz - 3.2ghz on air...though theres a lot of other factors to consider.

Alec,

This might be a bit irrelevant but i had trouble with my E4500 limiting at 334MHz FSB before i reseated the CPU a few times which gave me 360MHz, strange board the P5K Vanilla.

What memory are you using?

What sorta clocks would I expect with a rig like this? I'm not sure if I'll order it this month. Might wait until Xmas sales, etc.

I'm hoping around 3GHz.
