***The Official E2140/E2160 Overclocking Thread***

Died within about 10 seconds there.

Up to 1.456v CPUID indicated, trying again. I dont think its worth it though unless I get a cooler as it'll be hitting 70c easy.

EDIT: Immediately more stable, but almost immediately up to 70C. Bounced off 74c there for a second but that is pretty hot and not really worth the performance increase at the moment.

An edit for Dave: Yes - I know it's here just never think to use it properly. And I think my brain just chucks out tosh in a nicely sequential, forum-like manner. ;)

It's at just under 3ghz, leaving at that I think. I don't think a cooler would be worth it as it's not a gaming rig. Thanks anyway though. :)

BTW I couldnt give a stuff about post count...

Alex...i beg you, learn how to press the "edit" button... you've managed to spam an entire page with about 1 posts worth of content. I know it adds to post coutn ...but is it really needed ????

But no, it really isnt worth the performance increase (or electricity bill increase) once it gets to that point, maybe a new cooler might be in hand anyway though, you'd appreciate it over the stock, thats for sure.

progress so far on my e2200, system is as in sig (well the GPU is a 7600gt till my hd3850 gets back off RMA), in an akasa zen case and cpu cooler is a ultima-90i with a sharkoon 2000 on it:

RAM is currently on extremely loose timings while i test the CPU limit. the voltage is set to 1.35 from a default of 1.325 in the BIOS. hoping to get atleast 300 fsb stable, just doing 8 hours of prime at 266 first though.

I would be interested to see what you get out of your chip. I am up to

273x11 3003ghz.

vcore 1.43in bios (1.39 CPU-Z)

Idle 23 Load 47

mem 2:3 @ 819 (4 4 4 12) 2.06V

Stable in Orthos for 12 hrs

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L E2200
OCZ 2GBPlatinum Revision 2 XTC Series
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro

I would like to hit 3.2 but got fed up and wanted to play some games :)

i ended up going off playing games, was fine at 2.93 in games though. i put it to exactly 3ghz now with 2 options above the default voltage (cant remember what it is), cpu-z says 1.296. memory is overclocked slightly to 820-ish mhz now. gonna start priming now, doubt this will be stable at this voltage but worth a try :)

edit:
BSOD after 10 mins
uppped the volts to 1.375 and put the ram down a bit for now
i assume "vcore2" in speedfan is the RAM, which is at 1.89? im not expecting the ram to overclock much cos its value ram but i wouldnt expect 819mhz to make a difference... if i cant get far enough on the chip to have some sort of near-pc6400 speeds on the ram stable again might go back down to 2.93ghz.

should i run memtest at 1.9v at pc6400 to see if that is enough volts for the ram? it is rated for 1.8 to 2.1v, i would prefer to keep it low as is stable though to stop heat issues/RAM death.

edit2:
ran memtest at "auto", no failure.

now trying orthos at 280 fsb (3.08ghz), ram is at 375mhz (750mhz ddr), around 1.44V in the bios, 1.328 cpu-z

depending on the amount of volts i need to get higher stable i might just drop down to 266 fsb and have 2.93ghz as my "24/7 setting" for now, but im going to keep trying :)

edit3:

280 fsb in bios at 1.44v-ish in bios = bsod after afew mins

going to make sure 266 fsb is 100% stable at my current volts (1.35 in bios, 1.312 in cpu-z) and just orthos overnight at it, will start messing with volts/fsb etc again in the morning :)

266fsb - 2925mhz - 1.35v in BIOS - 1.296v in CPU-Z - RAM at pc6400 speeds - ~47c load temps - 8 hours orthos stable :D

going to try some higher settings soon :) the ambient temp is very low atm, hopefully later on when its warmer the cpu temp doesnt go up much more.

edit -
tried 300fsb and stuff, none of it booted properly. trying 280fsb now at 1.45v in bios, doing some benchmarks asoon as i re-install them.

might just keep 266fsb 2.93ghz as "Normal use" settings because its stable at 1.35v and i cant see myself getting far over 3ghz without insane volts

edit2 -although the fan speeds are slightly higher now, i get the same temps even though its slightly warmer now. might just be because i slightly re arranged the wires in my case though - cant cable tie them to make them really tidy till my replacement HD3850 comes though, dont want to risk having to waste cable ties because of having to redo it all.

Well I've finally got some Orthos stability, I'm going to leave it on overnight but here's how it's going at the moment -

my e2180 needs 1.4V in the bios to work at 3.2.

And what it the maximum voltage you would recommend with these chips? I would like to put it at 3333mhz or 3.4ghz but i dont want to melt it (yet)

Is there any other settings i shoud change? So far i have only changed:
The fsb to 320
The cpu voltage to 1.4
The Ram voltage & timings to the recommended 4-4-4-12 2.1v

I've currently got 1.5v through my 2180 to get 3.4GHz. I've been running with this config for a while and it stable for for general use (inc games) but not yet ORTHOS stable. To get it ORTHOS stable I need to reseat my HSF as the temps are high and then try another increment in voltage.

I got my E2160, Geil Black Dragon 2GB and MSI Neo2-FR set up on Friday, and have so far made it to 2.7Ghz Orthos stable.

340x8
Vcore: 1.375
Ram divider 1:1.75
Ram: 400mhz, 5-5-5-12 2v

Topping out at 48ºC with a Scythe Katana 2 + MX-2 + Noctua fan :)

Will slowly try to get this to 3Ghz this evening, probably 433x7 if I can.
