***The Official E2140/E2160 Overclocking Thread***

I beleive it does come with MX-2 pre-applied, so you'll just need to clean the heatspreader on the cpu before installing.

I see you've only got one fan in addition to the cpu fan, I take it you've got it set up as an exhaust at the back? Judging by the rpm it's going at it's an 80mm right? Adding an intake fan to the front of the case might help a bit, mine's right in front of my drives and manages to keep them and the graphics card cool while still aiding flow through the case.

Volts on the cpu look similar to mine (in cpu-z), you've got the rest at +0.1v too?

no i havnt, but they are not on auto. Should i put all others at +0.1v?

What does that do?

Do my ram timings look ok or not?

I like the fan idea - yeah one exhaust fan.

That RAM should run 400mhz 5,5,5,12 stock your running 20mhz over but you should still be able to use those timings imo.

Switch the FSB ratio from 2:3 to 1:1 (sometimes shown 1:2) too if i were you. That would allow you to overclock higher yet putting less stress on the RAM than you currently are, without real performance loss.

Press control+F1 in the bios to open up the additional settings so you can change RAM timings btw.

Hmm, those are still high temps especially under water. Your lapping reduced the temps by ~7deg so you are now now running about 67/68deg?

I am running at 1.5V to achieve 3.4GHz on air albeit on the e2160, load temps never exceed 62deg as a comparison.

What thermal paste you using?

MX2.

What are you using to measure those temps and what are you loading the CPU with?

I'm using RealTemp and Orthos Small FFT. I think I have a CPU with bad contact between the core and IHS, although I have recently lost one pump, so I'm only running one now, which will have dropped my flow rate some ~33% so it may be a combination of the two.

Is real temp as accurate as coretemp?

As coretemp measures my E2140 @ 3ghz as 40c idle 60 load (Orthos) but I just tried real temp and its show as 28idle and 47 load  which i'd be more than happy with if it were true?

I'm running Vista 64bit btw :)

Sorry to hop in there

Well after hitting a brick wall 300fsb on the asrockboard i bought a P35c-ds3r and now i have

Aint taken it past 400 but its been rock solid for about 12hours:)

Hi,
could do with a bit of help,im running a e2140 with 2x1 gb of ddr2 667mhz ram on a conroe1333 asrock board. I can't get it past 1793 mhz at all, could it be my motherboard holding me back?speedstep etc has been turned off and im a bit stuck. Cheers in advance,Ben.

Picked up this little beauty for peanuts last week. The 465mhz FSB is one of the highest I've seen on these chips. Should easily beat my 3.45ghz E2140.

I've only just installed it and have only had time to find the FSB wall, but it's now running at 3.1ghz on a touch over stock volts (1.25v is stock).

It'll POST at 3.9ghz, but I haven't time to fiddle any more tonight.

Is there a problem with CoreTemp and the M0 version of these chips? Because this can't be right -

slowrunner, that's exactly the same as my OC :p. except you seem to have lower volts than me and i don't have dual channel for some strange reason

Might be worth double-checking you've got you're RAM in the right slotd for DC?

The corsair memory is getting sent back to the US tomorrow, now that I've got hold of another 2GB of Transcend DDR2-800. I can finally run orthos on blend!

Forgot about this

(CoreTemp is about 15c too low for some reason, and CPU-Z isn't reading the vcore correctly, but Everest is)

It's a lot more voltage hungry than my E2140 was (it ran at 3.45ghz @1.47v), tho she can boot Windows at 3.6ghz at only 1.425v. I'll maybe have a play later this w-end to see how far she'll go.
