***The Official E2140/E2160 Overclocking Thread***

lol... mistakes like that happen... anyways, can you not relocate the tower to say, next to a window? or turn on some air conditioning or something?

anyways, i would think it's an OK temp; it's not super high, ie 74C, so if you're replacing the chip within say a year, you should be okay??? failing that, you could just get another case fan if your case allows... i put in an antec one and it gives me the same idle temp as if i open the windows and remove the side panel of the case... it's a wind tunnel creator, bt it goes by the market guise of an Antec Tricool 120mm case fan with ball bearings... or something of the sort...

Well my E2140 won't go anything past 400mhz FSB regardless of voltage :(
Nah mine either, clear fsb wall at 400mhz on my chip....still, a 100% overclock isnt something to laugh at.

To be honest unless you've absolutely drowned it in thermal paste it should only make a few degrees difference anyway (1or 2). Depending what your using to measure the temp that dosnt seem excessive anyway. At 1.45v my E2140 idles at 40c and goes up too ~63c.

Thats with a pretty more substantial cooler (tuniq 120) too. Its ok anyway, so not really worth messing around with imo.

You have the same case and cpu cooler as me, I have added a fan on the front panel but too the tube thing off the side panel as I was unable to get the cover on otherwise?

Temp's don't bother me that much really, obviously I'd like lower but it's not hitting 70 so I'm ok about it :)

haha. so i wasn't the only one finding that darn Prescott cooler annoying :P. well, enjoy the cpu... she flies, don't she?

@ david; i think most of the E2140s wall at 400mhz, don't they?

Ah it's a good chip £30 for a C2D that can do 3.0ghz at low volts is wicked I think!

I may reseat it one more time tomorrow then its staying put :)

ha ha. yeah...

i was having an argument with a friend of mine a few days ago and he was prattling about, trying to imply, basically, that i don't know anything about intel and that the 6750is the best CPU ever and that Penryn's 45nm cache is the only cpu to go for :P. and i think to myself, just HOW much did he spend on his CPU? when his E6750 hits 3.2 and i hit 3ghz, we have similar performance, but mine is a WHOLE lot cheaper :P. the joys of the wonderful overclock.

This little thing does everything I need it to really, converting dvd's bits of gaming and office based stuff...

Wouldn't spend lots on a cpu as I have no need for it :)

overclocking the E2140/2160 to 3Ghz +, is it really faster then stock E6750 in games/application/video encoding?

I have E6300 and thinking of buying decent Mobo to overclock it.

I'm hoping for a modest 2.4Ghz out of my E2160 with the intel cooler. Gonna be a couple of weeks before I can try it as I'm holding off building it up until I get Vista HP 64 for my birthday, everything else is just sat here waiting.

As I posted in another thread, built one of these for a chum, upped the vcore to 1.35 in bios, had it running for 17 hrs in Orthos (stress cpu) at 3ghz (8 x 375). Didn't even miss a beat. Stock cooler, 62C max.

Got impatient................system in sig currently running at standard with XP home sp2 :D.

Getting the odd unwarned of random re-boot though .

333 x 9 @ 1.35v = 3005.6 Ghz on a stock cooler.

edit: RealTemp states 32°

I can't figure out how to try the 375 x 8 ? How do I change the multiplier on an MSI board ? Any ideas ?

Anyway, it boots, lets see how long it runs.

Quick testing of my E2180 seems to indicate it needing 1.64v to get to 3.4Ghz.

Temps are 75'C using RealTemp under water, so I suspect that something's not quite right (block mount or IHS) as this would indicate C/W of 0.3

wow... that's hugely high, especially with water... hope you can get that sorted soon, mate...

i'm finding i can't really use the power of this CPU; considering going back down to 2.4ghz with stock volts, and then returning back up when in a few months down the line... even considering scrapping the OC of my GPU as i don't need all that power...

think it's a good idea?

What clocks and volts you running? 3GHz should be achievable on stock cooler....

Standard clocks and volts according to the bios (F6), bumping the voltage to 1.344 in cpu-z seems to have stabilised it, but orthos blend fails within a minute!

1:FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4
1:Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file.

Cant work out which version of memtest to download or how to use it to check the ram, small fft's is fine?

EDIT: 1.344v in cpu-z at idle is actually set as 1.375v in the bios, Something wrong there or is it normal to be that far off?

push up your volts... I had to get 1.425 in bios (can't remember what in cpu-Z) to support that speed... maybe you need more volts?

i'm starting to think this "3ghz on stock volts" myth is nothing more than a myth
