***The Official E2140/E2160 Overclocking Thread***

Had a play around, now running 2.25Ghz (9x250), 1.4v in bios giving 1.36v idle, 1.344v load. Memory at 5:8 so it's still at 800Mhz. Temps are 32 idle 60 load (1 hour of orthos). Still getting rounding error on blend though.

Doesn't seem too bad to me for the intel cooler.

...

EDIT: 1.344v in cpu-z at idle is actually set as 1.375v in the bios, Something wrong there or is it normal to be that far off?

Normal, mine is set at 1.375v in the bios, but will go as low as 1.336 under Orthos 100% cpu stress test. At idle it sits at 1.36. Cpus and motherboards obviously vary, so people will get different results every time.

I can get my E2160 12hr prime stable at 3.2GHz Bios 1.485v

At 3.3GHz it will fail prime regardless of Vcore after 2+ hrs and reboots computer anybody know why it reboots ?

Screen Shot at 3.3GHz 10 mins before it rebooted bios Vcore @ 1.525v

What's your memory settings?

Memory is: Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 DHX 4-4-4-12

Memory was at 1:1 4-4-4-12 2.1v tried it at 1:1 5-5-5-15 2.2v and it still reboots after 2+hrs

wow... that's hugely high, especially with water... hope you can get that sorted soon, mate...

It's not hugely high, but a little higher than I would expect.

I've lapped it now and that's reduced temps by ~7'C.

At 3.4Ghz and 1.64 volts, it's roughly pushing out 166 watts. Assuming an ambient of 20'C, that gives ~ 0.29 'C/W (48/166).

I'm wondering if the cores have terrible contact with the IHS.

Hmm, those are still high temps especially under water. Your lapping reduced the temps by ~7deg so you are now now running about 67/68deg?

I am running at 1.5V to achieve 3.4GHz on air albeit on the e2160, load temps never exceed 62deg as a comparison.

What thermal paste you using?

*warning complete 'newbie' to over clocking. "

I spent ages upping Vcore and the CPU speed and could only get 2.3 out of my E2180 - it just kept restarting three times then reset.

I then eventually realised that i needed to change my memory setting, which under system memory multiplier is set to 2.5 now, from what iwas on (auto). I am not sure what this even is - yes i am that clueless.

Does it mean I have technically underclocked my RAM to get more out my CPU?

I ran windows experiance and it went from 4.6 to 5.4 - I now have the CPU running at 10x260 with 1.375v, 2.6Ghz.

I did try 10x280 but restarted - should i try more vcore?

Does anyone have any pointers to get this up to the 3.0Ghz everyone say is possible?

Also when I see people saying 4-4-4-12 etc for ram, what is this?

Thanks for any help, and patience! :)

Firstly, click this link and have a good read.

Then tell us what motherboard and memory you're using, that'll help us give better advice on the settings you should use.

@ thought - give us more settings, that way we can be more specific in our answers

Sorry specs:

Ram: 2x1gb Corsair XMS2-6400 5-5-5-12
CPU: E2180
Motherboard: Gigabyte P35-DS3P

I managed to get it up to 3.0ghz with more vcore but understress it went to 73oC which i beleive is to high! It is on stock cooler, can someone suggest a better more quiet one?

I am still a little confused about the timings on ram. Does a higher or lower set of figures mean better or worse speeds?

no its sweet, my computer is running brilliantly not complaining at all. Just with my small amount of knowledge i dont want to be stressing the ram or what ever.

its running at 2800 at the moment just to keep temps down a bit and its brilliant.

is this the cooler you are talking about: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-017-AR&tool=3

does it come with any paste or not?

If anyone could shed more light on ram timings that would be great.

Cheers
