Wait a few weeks / month or so and pay £50 instead for regular beta access.

Premium Beta would be nice but I can't justify the £100 just now, and I'll just get the expansions when they are released in the future.

I was just worried the individual cost of the expansions will add up to quite a lot. Anyone know if the expansion pass will still be available to buy after the game is released?

Took the plunge on Premium Beta yesterday. Amazing game. My TM Warthog works well with it too. I think my massive base in Rust might begin decaying before long ;)

However for those of you that have the joystick, what have you bound left and right thrusters to? I've ran out of axis (plural?) to bind, and my remaining buttons are being used eg for targeting a ship. In general flight I don't really miss it, but landing/docking is near impossible without it, as twisting the stick to yaw doesn't quite cut it.

Excited :D

Whatever you have your HAT switch bound to at the moment, find other buttons for. Up, down, left and right Thrusters are essential for docking, dogfighting by increasing your rate of turn, and generally aligning and positioning your ship (especially when you get into targetting sub-systems). Tip - target the power generator and KABOOOM. You can one shot an anaconda with railguns :)

This will all become moot when your X52 arrives, but even then, you will run out of buttons. Play as much as you can, keep adjusting your settings and prioritise your key presses - put everything you use regularly on the stick.

Ah good idea, and thanks for the tips, cheers. The HAT is currently used for power distribution, which is handy, but I'll switch it around tonight. I could really do with a HAT on the throttle somewhere!

X55 has more hats than TF2!

The scary thing is you find things to use them and all the buttons and switchs for.

Played through the most of the SP missions now and set up my X55 pretty well (still needs some tweaking) but i was having some weird issues with MP for my first run up.

Station vanished as i was landing and game would lock up on exiting supercruise.

Yeah my short experience of the MP has been the same - exiting supercruise should result in a brief animation before the station/etc appears, but the animation seems to get stuck. I thought the game was crashing, but noticed last night if I wait a few minutes (sometimes up to 10), then the animation suddenly finishes and the station appears. I'm guessing it's server-side issues..

There is no server side, thats the problem. Its trying to resolve the peer-to-peer connections and someone with a slow connection will drag the instance load speed right down.

Thanks Lt Red for the setup tips, I'll be doing that tonight ... I've got one of the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas thingy's and it works a treat with ED, for anyone on a tight budget the T-Flight is way better than the £35 price tag would suggest, very solid and responsive.

Really enjoyed my first venture into ED ... some single missions and a brief online test to land in the port ... didn't realise I had to request to dock and got branded a criminal .. lol, such fun :)

ah well , that was £100 down the pan :D I cant play this to save my life! The biggest problem is the controller setup. Ive a Saitek x45 which looks all right and working in the windows properties page but the deadzones in game are so huge as to make it totally unusable regardless of how i set the deadzone sliders. I have to literally move the stick 45 degrees from vertical to get any movement registered and then its all over the place, no delicate small movements at all, plus i dont really know what the majority of key bindings mean :D so im stuffed at the moment and cant get past mission 3 single player. Very frustrated. Im sure it will all sort out at some point tho.

I notice in the ControlSchemes folders are a lot of named stick configs. How do you select them in the game options screen? Maybe i can rename the x52 file and use that as a starting point?

That's why I went for the Thrustmaster ... I have the Saitek Evo stick and was hoping to be able to use it but no, all over the place, tried many setups and calibrations to no avail, their so called 'Smart' software is anything but ... glad i took a chance on the T-Flight Hotas, works a treat, no messing with deadzones needed.

Good old Microsoft sidewinder 2 FFB here. I couldnt play the game with mouse and keyboard, then I tried Xbox360 controller. Both were awful until I tried the sidewinder joystick, it completely transformed the game. They are one of the best joysticks imo.

I played it a bit, mostly just docking and such. Got my controls setup. Picked up a black widow which is okay, short on buttons and got a razer nostromo.

Waiting for my Oculus DK2 to arrive.
