I won't lie, I barely managed to steer the thing let alone know what all the buttons did. I need to print a keyboard layout guide.

I've just started playing ED as I have very fond memories of Frontier on my old Amiga. I managed to dock at Azeban City, buy some merch, and head off into space. I've just jumped to Asseullus Prime but have no idea how to find a station to dock at - can anyone help? I bring up the galaxy map but don't know how to bring up detailed info on the sector.

Love the game so far though :)

You need to find Beagle 2 Landing in the navigation tab, I'm assuming you jumped and haven't super cruised to the right location.

If you are on this evening feel free to pop onto our teamspeak server, plenty of us around to help!

It's my one WArcraft night tonight but I shall pop on another time for sure. Just looked at the CH throttle, £90! Seems very feature rich and video guy liked it but it looks rather plain and I like things to match. What I'd love is the X55 with an analogue hat on the throttle.

I've been meaning to get a playseat for the final immersion element. The problem with looking down at your hands is that it doesn't correspond to the way I'm sitting so my hand is flailing around in empty air where my eyes are telling me my stick is. A playseat would sort that. I think I've convinced myself.

What would you envisage using that analogue hat for?

Analogue control of thrusters. I may be getting hat mixed up with the mini joystick on the CH.

That's a DK1.

Still want one though :D

Haven't spent much time with Elite (I'm a premium beta backer), mainly because the Xbox controller wasn't really doing the job. Ordered an X52 Pro to give myself an incentive. Nobody's pushed that on me- Elite is a complicated game and requires a lot of controls.

Now I really want a Oculus DK2.....

The mini sticks allows gradual control of thrusters in more than one direction simultaneously it's a nice touch and yes it makes manoeuvring a lot easier or more precise. Whether that precision is required or not is down to the individual though, I enjoy being able to land perfectly and having that extra precision means station entrances are a doddle as I never over compensate as I do with digital thruster controls - again this is a personal preference.

I'll be happy to wait for consumer release, hoping they get the resolution right!

You really feel that makes a useful difference? ie: Instead of peppering the thrust?

I don't think it would, I'm happy using the digital HAT.

I'm really starting to like this now I'm over the worst of the learning curve. I tried flight assist off, it wasn't too bad at all really however I don't see much point in turning it off 90% of the time, it's handy in some situations though.

I can easily afford a Cobra now however I am making sure I have some spare money for trading once I buy it.

Just waiting on my DK2 now, hopefully some of the slight issues will have been ironed out by September.

In general I'm really looking forward to all the elements the Frontier team has planned :)

People stopped using D-pads on controllers when analog sticks were added due to the increased ease of use and precision, it's the same argument here. Yes it functions with the D-pad but it's nicer with analogue.

Whilst I agree, for me I don't feel digital is an issue with the lateral thrusters. Now if we're talking about roll/pitch/yaw that's a different story.

Given the option, I'd rather have analogue HAT control but would I upgrade just for that? No.

No I wouldn't upgrade purely for it either tbh and I didn't, it's great but I was really after the digital hats on the throttle I got, lots of them and they feel different so I don't press the wrong one in the wrong direction*

*and fly head first into the wall, again.

I'd tend to agree with you.
Analogue would be a nice bonus however I've not felt that the digital control of the thrusters was too bad in the game.

I guess you have to remember that hats were mainly used for navigating menus or scrolling through settings traditionally, I like the tactile click when using a hat for that purpose. An analogue hat would be more squishy by its nature and I'm not sure I'd like that for going through menus etc.
