I-Novae is supposed to be releasing a tech demo before the end of the year too, though I'm not holding my breath.

I think having experienced eve for 9 years, Mr Braben is being naive in the extreme if he thinks he has any hope what so ever of having a pvp system of anyone and anywhere that'll work out.

He's just lost half his audience if thats the case, people will drop, those that don't mind allready sub on eve.

If he elite turns into the same meta fest as eve, then it's doomed, eve had years to become that with a playerbase entrenched in it's inception and growth.

In terms of multiplayer it will be more like call of duty in space than eve online but with the ability to scale up and down a bit more than COD i.e. you can limit it to just yourself, a group of close friends, a community like OcUK or open it up to all and sundry. If someones griefing you you can drop out of the "group" they belong to and never see them again ingame. The exact implementation will be a little different as thats an overly simplified description of the design they are working towards.

I cant see how you figure. The whole point of police / bounty hunters is hugely attractive to the average Elite player and I also wouldnt draw a comparison between Elite and Eve because of the very different way youll engage with the universe. Free flight in 3d vs mouse click 2d? Cant see them competing tbh.

I agree. I think it adds a huge amount of strength to the game. It's the kind of interaction Elite fans have been gunning for since Elite first came out.

Update #4 - New pledges and new pledge upgrades
Update #4 · Nov. 16, 2012 · 2 comments
There are some new pledge categories - and this gives some new things to those who have already pledged!

You can also upgrade pledges with physical things (that will be shipped to you). More details here:

http://www.frontier.co.uk/dangerous_kickstarter_pledges/pledges/

Once again, thanks for all the support. It is really heartening.

David

New update, just away to look at the new rewards.

Edit: Only one of note is the free download of the sequel to "The Dark Wheel" for £35
Edit: Actually you also get the music free for £45, mentions physical items will be available but they're not up yet it seems.

From their website:-

These are unlimited and available to all tiers of £40 or more. Simply up your pledge by the total of the items you would like (including additional postage for each item if you are outside the UK), but keep the same tier on the “Manage my Pledge Screen”. Please note: each of these items is separate – it does not include all the previous items.
Once the Kickstarter campaign for Elite: Dangerous has completed successfully we will ask you how you want the additional funds allocating (ie the amount over and above your selected tier), and then provide the additional items as described on the dates described.

+£15* Have a physical paperback copy of the “Elite: Dangerous” music (Delivery March 2014)
+£20* Have a physical CD of the “Elite: Dangerous” music (Delivery March 2014)
+£50* Have an “Elite: Dangerous” mug and “Elite: Dangerous” T shirt with “I backed Elite: Dangerous” on the back shipped to you (Delivery February 2013)
+£50* Have a signed (by David Braben) physical hardback copy of the official sequel to the Dark Wheel (Delivery March 2014)
+£500* Have a physical 3D model of a Cobra Mk III to scale (approx. 15cm) shipped to you (Delivery March 2014)
+£700* Have a physical 3D model of an Anaconda to scale (approx. 35 cm) shipped to you (Delivery March 2014)
+£400* Have a physical 3D model of a Viper Mk II to scale (approx. 10 cm) shipped to you (Delivery March 2014)
+£700* Have a physical 3D model of a partial cut-away (revealing the interior) of a Cobra Mk III to scale (approx. 15cm) shipped to you (Delivery March 2014)
+£950* Have a physical 3D model of a partial cut-away (revealing the interior) of an Anaconda to scale (approx. 35cm) shipped to you (Delivery March 2014)
+£550* Have a physical 3D model of a partial cut-away (revealing the interior) of a Viper Mk II to scale (approx. 10cm) shipped to you (Delivery March 2014)

Cobra Mk III model please!

So how does that work, if you have pledged £500, you already can just get the Cobra model, or do you need to increase it by another £500? The description is a bit ambiguous.

Edit: Meh, that's poor, if you pick the £500 tier say, you need to up your pledge to £1000 to get the £500 tier reward AND the Cobra model.

Yes, they are bought as add-ons to your existing tier. All it really seems to have done at the moment is to get people to drop their existing tiers to a lower level and then add the funds again to what they had paid before to get the add-on tat. So basically if they previously pledged £750 it was going entirely to the game, by dropping to say £250 and buying the Cobra model for £500, only £250 is going to the game + whatever profit from the model. The game isn't being funded to the same amount.

I'm also starting to get seriously hacked off with the comments section.

Having seen how Star Citizen is being presented, it really pains me to say it, but the elite guys really need to drop some rather large "bombs" and wow the crap out of people real quick. I REALLY hope Elite happens, i wasted (read: spent) soooo much time playing the original and Frontier and love them both to death. Couple that with the fact PC gamers have been starved a decent space sim (I've not checked out EVE) for such a long time.....ppllllllleeaase....i want to waste time in space for a change! Not in bloody Azeroth or in a bloody tank! SPACE!

If it gets funded I really hope Braben sticks to his guns and makes the game he wants. There are some fairly vocal people on the kickstarter who I believe would have things implemented in the game that would essentially mean it will no longer be "Elite". I fear there may be a possibility that my not insubstantial pledge will end up going towards a game I don't want to play.
