Sod it, I've had enough of trading. I'm off to Sagittarius A* :)

Well around this time yesterday I got fed up and decided to head to the core; today I'm 8.7K ly out from Sol and have 14.3K ly to go before I reach my first stop, the Great Annihilator.

The journey continues!

I discovered I only get ghosting if I leave the HOTAS plugged into my PC when it boots up. So, I've learned to unplug the HOTAS after a play session. USB2.0 or USB3.0 ports don't make a blind bit of difference for me.

I got the exact opposite! Unplugged X55 as the green glow was annoying while I was programming. Later decided to have a quick blast on Elite. Plugged it back in and then loaded the game.

Over the next 20 seconds, I lost 650k's worth of cargo and my ship.

Never had any issues leaving it plugged in though.

Bah!

Spent last night hammering pirates without a problem, fired it up today and ghosting again!

Mine seems to come and go now. If I haven't had an issue within the first couple of minutes it'll be fine all night, it seems completely random now.

Got my x55 ... omg so many buttons.. seems to be working fine for me, however I don’t have “dump cargo” assigned to a switch or button, not had time to play much as i have been busy mapping the buttons. Throttle is stiff but ok for me on minimum setting, flight stick itself seems to be fine using the green spring that was fitted. So far I’d say i was happy. Coming from the Thrustmaster t flight hotas x and not trying anything else i say it’s a good step up for me.

what load out are people using on the vulture? I have too use E3 pulse lasers to balance the power, but would prefer to use beams... gone for A rated power plant, power dist and shields... D on thrusters, and 2 x A 0 shield boosters, but is there a better balance?

Wow at the vulture. Upgraded from a b grade cobra.
Still need to kit it out as I couldn't find a power distributor so running the class e!!
It packs a punch with class 3 gimballed lasers.

What HOTAS set-up are you guys using?.

I'm more into strafing than conventional flying so I'll need the ability for the vertical & horizontal strafe split - along with forwards thrust (want to learn to fly without flight assist).

I assume I'll need the rudders for left/right strafing & a duel stick throttle (one for up/down strafe & another for thrust?).

I'd really recommend the CH pro throttle, or any device with an analogue thumb stick on it. Using the lateral thrusters in analogue is great :) Be warned though some ships have quite weak lateral thrust and there is a fair bit of inertia. If you are targetting subsystems you will be using it all the time to stay facing the target.

So I bit the bullet and bought the game, currently fumbling my way through the "tutorials" which if I'm not mistaken don't really teach you anything, just put you in a scenario and say "go". Struggling with the mouse and keyboard a lot though, would a controller be a better option in the mean time until I can get a flight stick? I have a ps4 controller, can that even be used with the game?

Also, flightsticks. Good ones for a beginner?

I started with a Thrustmaster t flight hotas x set up (way better than mouse and keys ) as i was not sure how much i would get in to the game. Approx £40 - £50 and its a good starting place. However if your gonna get in to it then upgrade to a better setup. I dont think any of the HOTAS setups are perfect just got to find the one that suits you.

Got my vulture kitted out with c3 beam gimbled

How do you produce enough power for that?! I'm thinking you must have low end other modules, and surely you can't use the beams for long bursts? Even with 2 pulse lasers mine couldn't last that long firing consistently, and I had to disable some modules even with a A rated power plant/dist!

With a lot of jiggery pokery !!. yeah its not perfect and yes have to use lower units else where.

I get a good 5 seconds of beam, enough to take out shields and do some damage on the first round

No silly extras for me, pure fighting so no discovery scanner. The ship is for close up fighting so no long range scanner required, no cargo. Just guns, basic Kill warrant scanner and covered in shield boosters and hull reinforcement ... think Tank!! lol

The Thrustmaster is excellent for the price. If you have a microphone then combine it with some software called 'Voice Attack' which lets you speak commands to supplement the joystick buttons.

So i'm assuming HOTAS is the way to go then, looks like I can get the thrustmaster or cheaper Speedlink Black Widow locally so may pop off tomorrow and have a look. Wouldn't want to spend any more than £50 initially as I haven't played enough to know if i'll stick with it or not. Im sure if the game grabs me in the way that I hope i'll eventually get a nice upgrade kit

Ta for the advice :)

For me the thrustmaster wins as you can split the throttle from the flight stick and it was just enough cable to sit either sided of the keyboard. Could not get to grips with them when the 2 sticks were attached as this felt very restrictive in movement.

Move the vulture to an e3 gim pulse, and a c3 gim beam laser combo. Balanced the rest of the power draw and the laser balance seems to tear through smaller ships without any capacitor issues with 3 pips to the weapons.

Looks like commodity prices are being nerfed. Can no longer do a rare run as the quantity has halfed its not worth it right now so bought a load of Gold cheap instead thinking I can make a good profit on that only to find the price has dropped through the floor its around 8700cr right now & the high was 10500 cr but the new high is around the 9200 cr mark

Think I will quit for a few weks the prices seem to be all over the place :(
