Hello!

ED is just awesome... There said it.

However

My GTX 980 does not get over 60% utilised and I do now have micro stutter and significant stutter in the Resource extraction site. (I would expect some but was not an issue before)

I have turned off Vsync and that has made no difference and I know it is not my CPU as that just sits at 70%...

Anybody else having a few graphics issues since the last big patch?

I managed to scrape into an asp from a type 6. although i am running the asp as a 128t cargo mule i am now going to start a combat build as soon as i hit a decent credit pile. currently running gold and resonators and making about 1.5m per hour, once I get the 5m for the a5 fsd I will be back nearer 2m.

the jump range with the default fsd is 'lol' rated but the a5 has got some serious chops. I am interested in the Vulcan but the asp seems to have more options in terms of loadout. I will give both a whirl I guess.

I did a side grade from a full keyboard layout onto a x52 pro. took a good hour to get the x52 setup how I wanted. it's a good quality stick and I think it's good value for what you get.

I would say that for trading and exploration the keyboard is the way to go. for combat, well you can't really dogfight in keyboard mode so it's a no brainer.

I am running a 980 setup, I report back on frame times.

Just working towards a fully A rated python and rankings, only the reactor to go now, then i will just hoard cash and more cash and wait till a full 100% released VR hits general release. Then i will set everything to uber low quality, fly to Earth with half a eye open, quit change all settings to max don the VR and travel our solar system in pure escapism bliss :)

I tried to replicate the stuttering on my EVGA SC 980s but I only get stuttering during hyperspace.

I am probably not a good test case as I am running a custom bios under water (which has variable in-game boost disabled and a 1.268v limit) and I tried with single and multi-card configs. In game FPS is as per others observations 120fps in space and 60-70fps in station using Ultra settings in 1080p.

I get around 200fps in the first target practise tutorial with a single card at 1506/1900 so I would imagine to get 60fps in that test (as it is in one of the videos in that FD thread) that said persons rig is either b0rked (maybe thermal, power throttle) or Vsync is on.

RAM utilisation is low, SSD does not pull much at all and Network is also quiet.

I am on a system with a 100 ship churn in 24 hours. I imagine boosting to Everate and conducting the same test would probably pull down my fps.

Tempted to whack the stock bios on and see what happens.

Ok so i tried the above first mission tutorial on my 4k screen and its an absolute mess (single card) unless you force v-sync on from the Nvidia control panel. I used adaptive VSync.

The Elite in-game controls for Vsync (its broken!) and in engine frame-limit do not remove the problem I must use the Nvidia control panel Vsync settings.

Update: even in SLI I get decent perf. even if 3d engine will only use 2 cards. Gives you 60fps/16.7ms frametime pretty much locked inside the stations in 4k rather than 30-40fps with a single card. Single card still playable tho.

I get about the same GPU usage, i don't think that is is the problem. Its probably a timing issue. Can you disable all in game vsync and fps limits. Enable Adaptive Vsync in Nvidia control panel, global settings. Load up EVGA Precision X and enable KBoost. No overclock. This will lock your card at a specific clock and voltage.

Load up ED and see if it makes an improvement or not.

Besty

Have you had any driver crashes whilst overclocked?

With even a modest clock it will CTD in Super cruise and I can;t use my stock 1266 clock for hyperspace. I have to clock down to 1200 in order for it to not crash. All these are things I can work around, however there are a number of people having the same issues on the ED forum.

I raised a ticket and they told me to reinstall.... which did not work.

no mine is rock solid but its different for me as I run at 40C GPU temp under peak load. I usually leave elite running all day in docking on the weekend not one crash with 1.2. I did observe crashes in 1.1, not necessarily in hyperspace/cruise though. The problem on air is that the card will be making decisions in the background as to what clocks to select based on thermal load and constantly modifying its boost using the stock bios. I would clock the card right down to 1100 and switch the kboost lock on. get vsync working properly and go from there. You should see over 100fps (1080p ultra) in the tutorial test still and observe a sub 10ms frame-time. You can record it in fraps for the frametime observations and use fraps graph to process it.

Edit: curious as to what temps you see under load for EVGA PX, can you post those ?

With Vsync off I get 100+ FPS but its still not great, card temp hits 54c and 60% utilisation.

With Vsync on. never gets over 45c and 20-40%

This was in a extraction Zone, fighting an anaconda with 6 or 7 security ships.... Was intense... LOL

Well I got myself the Thrustmaster HOTAS X today but have only managed a quick blast in the tutorials with it, won't be able to get properly using it until tomorrow evening. Seems good so far, though I'm doing much worse in combat with it, but ill blame lack of setup and unfamiliar controller on that, need to sort the deadzones out for sure as it's pretty bad trying to basically snipe something and having to make big inputs to get the reticle to move leading to lots of overcorrection.

Really need to get a proper desk sorted asap, bit awkward trying to balance the flight sticks and a keyboard on a bloody beanbag!

Thanks for the recommendations guys

Takes a little while to get use to the set up but that will come in a few hrs. Here is a link to the bindings I used, I did modify this set up to suit me but was a great starting place and saved a world of time in setting up the stick.

And yeah sort out a solid surface. How you can use that on a bean bag I'll never know lol

So what's the verdict with adaptive vsync on ? Don't keep us in suspense, in theory with vsync on and running at maximum for your monitor there is no possibility of gpu related microstutter. It's only with vsync off or when running below optimal fps that microstutter becomes possible.

Your temps and utilisation look fine.

If Ctd during hyperspace I would set the fan profile to 100% and up the voltage on the card, just to see if a voltage bump fixes the instability. You might have a chip which needs more volts.

Still no AMD Crossfire Profile for Elite in the latest beta drivers. Only profiles for:-

Battlefield Hardline
Evolve
Far Cry 4
Lords of the Fallen
Project Cars
Total War: Attila

Could not help myself in the end, picked the Elite up last night and ordered the Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X. It should do the job until the Star Citizen HOTAS comes out.

Was very close to getting the X55 but all the negative reviews put me off.

Thanks for that, should be useful as to be honest I still don't know half of the damn buttons! Ive mapped the ones I seem to be using for the tutorials, but I know ive had to sacrifice other things like the cargo scoop which i'll use more once I actually get playing properly.

Lol its beanbag/floor combination, keyboard on my lap, stick on the floor on either side so its not as bad as it sounds. But yes weekend project is to get a desk and set it up.

This might have been mentioned already, but did anyone else receive a surprise in the post (well by courier actually!) this morning?

My 'retail boxed' copy of the Elite Dangerous DVD was finally delivered!

I haven't had a chance to install it yet, but to be honest I was beginning to wonder if it would ever arrive!

Made no difference. Have set adaptive Sync to on.

There are a few people on the ED forums with the same issues. Everything was fine last week. then the patch came out and the issues started for me and others. Another 980 user with a factory OC 1233 has also fixed the hyperspace issue with down clocking there card to 1200. That seems to be a good base clock.

I can defo play, just I am a bit annoyed that we have to adapt our hardware to solve problems that were not there before patching, with no support from Frontier as well apart from re install.

I might DDU my drivers and see what difference that make. Still very low usage on my GPU though. Is it just not a graphic's heavy game?

Thanks for the suggestions. As I can still play I will see what happens in future patches.

So I only realised last night that I could afford an Imperial Clipper. I thought "Hell yeah!", and then I tried to rank up my Empire rank and thought "hell no!".

Is there an easier way to do this? I'm currently just slogging missions for empire factions until I get a naval progression one, but it seems to take ages. I spent 2 hrs last night just to get to "Outsider". Baron seems a long way away!

Heh my backer rewards turned up today - was wondering what the somewhat dusty parcel was as I wasn't expecting anything to be delivered - quite a nice little package the game box (itself) is done up in.
