This would explain why I've not been able to find better than my (I think) D2 beam lasers on the Cobra.

I think I might try the Pulse lasers if I can find them as I keep having to wait for the beams to cool down, so I can't help but think running pulse lasers mean I can keep firing for longer.

I also prefer gimballed as I've started targetting sub-components on the bigger ships

What you want to do is get a better power distributor, and if you aren't being shot at (ie if you are behind your target, which you should be in a cobra), then put 4 pips in weapons and 2 in sys, just in case, or at least 3 and 3. That will make a big difference. With 4 pips in weapons my beams will fire for aaaages.

A rated and I default to 4 in weapons and 2 in system.

The problem is that I've hit the limit on the available power (15.6 I think it is) so had to limit the warrant scanner to a type E

If you set the FSD/Any scoops/interdictors/cargo hatch to a low priority in the modules tab (higher number).

When you deploy weaps, all that turns off.

Means you can run quite a bit over the power plant. Might already know this but maybe not :)

Been playing this for a week now and just worked this out earlier today. Comes in handy, I put the scoop the lowest.

Made about 4 million credits so far, 99% from bounty hunting :D

Knew about the priorities not specifically what happened. I'll give that a try tomorrow (got a project close off night tonight...)

Thank you :)

Bought elite on Sunday played about six hours last night and I've already made 300,000 credits.

I have two questions, firstly I really enjoy bounty hunting and exploring, I can't decide between purchasing a Cobra or a Viper. I think the Cobra at the moment, it costs a lot more but should be ideal for both combat and exploration. so my question is, is this the correct choice?

Second question are flight sticks really worth it. I'm considering the x52 if I find one cheap enough. The only flight game I own is elite.

Get the viper, smash up some bounty hunting for an evening or two then swap to the cobra. No point spending ages deciding when there's next to no disadvantage to swapping ships. Try the viper. It'll be more fun than the cobra for combat, but you won't be able to jump too far. When you're sick of it, then swap out and go cobra. You'll likely have more cash to plough in to it as well due to smashing it up in a Viper for a while. You'll also appreciate the extra jump distance and cargo :p

Get a stick, but if you aren't sure then I might suggest something cheaper (x52 is going to go for 100 quid in most cases). I play with a madcatz v1,which can be had for next to nothing. It isn't amazing, but if you want a flavour of what playing with a stick is like then give it a go. Maybe a thrustmaster flight x as an inbetween compromise?

Thanks guys, about to start playing, going to get the Viper. As for sticks has anyone used a Saitek Fly V5, I can get a second hand one for about £15.

It really is worth having the separate throttle and stick, just for the extra buttons, in my opinion.

The Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS X is good value for money. There are quite a few going second hand at the moment from people who bought Elite and ended up not liking it so much - maybe grab a bargain there.

Agreed. I got this HOTAS after getting Elite and it is very good for the money. The game would not be the same without it.

Hey Zefan, me and you got to be a rare breed mate being both Mario and Elite players. Lol.

Yea my T Flight is doing fine, but when I'm rolling right to the full extent of the stick, the locking mechanism dislodges. I'm looking at an X55 Rhino/Warthog or whatever to replace it sometime.

I love my Hotas X and my viper, just finished bounty hunting for the night :P

I'm totally addicted to this!!

I absolutely hate the grind, makes me want to blow my own ship up!

I use the X52 and HOTAS made this game for me. Only use the Keyboard for UI and coms, use the mouse only in the Galaxy map.

What the others said about the Viper. Great ship for bounty hunting. I have now moved up to a vulture, pretty much built proof with maxed out upgrades. (unless bounced by 3 anaconda's) will move to an asp when I start exploring.

Totally awesome game. Not sure if GTA V will get a look in....for a bit.... dam these first world issues :D
