So, got the 'conda last night :D
Sooo much nicer to fly than the T9!

Only done 2 trading runs, and as per every other ship "upgrade" I have done since I started...

I'll get the insurance back over the next few hours gametime ^.^

That's with a full cargo hold.
I have either insurance or cargo.. Same as when I went to the T6 / T7 / Python / T9. :D

Did you have a fully kitted python, if so how do you compare them both? I'm running a full spec python and T9 at the moment and don't know if I should go for the anaconda

I did have a play with it a while back but I found it slow and cumbersome but it had no upgrades. My python is pretty formidable and I like the ability to land on platforms....hmmm decisions decisions

Python hands down is more fun. Nice weapon placement and WAY more powerful than the Vulture.
Doesn't handle as nimbly as the Vulture though by far.

'conda is only trading spec, may stay that way for a few months ;)

Compared to the T9 the 'conda is beautiful tbh... OK, less cargo space but so much nicer to fly. Still near 20LY jump range makes a lot of routes 1 jump or 2.

If I had the pennies, I'd have kept the Python and run Python / conda.
But earning the Python back shortly :D

Went on for a hour today to see if i could find a nvidia thing on the commodity market but didnt but i didnt expect to tbh i mean theres 4 billion systems and more than 1 station per system sooooo.. :p

Be nice tho if i did find one. Would be good for gta v coming soon i bet.

Still i had a fight with a npc sidewinder today i still suck at combat as in keeping the target in my lasers sweet spot, bloody thing keeps manouvering and speeding up and down and boosting. Bloody git. I seem to hit better at a distance tho since they dont manouver as much then. Dunno why i cant reverse in my hotas x its set to full in the options but meh cant reverse to keep target in sight like i do in x games. Plus yawing (twisting the stick) etc or whatever gets annoying and hard on the wrist.

Lucky 2 other ships came and helped me out i dunno where they came from but they managed to get the ships shields down when i couldnt even when i did get a few good shots on target it never dropped its shields for me tho i do use the cheapest pulse lasers but ah well.

Is there any tips to get shields down quicker in a cheap sidewinder that can get other sidewinders or eagles shields down quicker without spending a lot. I dont wana spend much incase the ship blows up and i have to fork out for the expensive stuff again, even tho i have 7 mill from that event that was up a week or two ago where u just shoot what was attacking the cap ship and u got loads of bounties then the tier reward after it ended. Mates told me about all that and glad they did for not much work otherwise due to my lack of playing would take me loads of trading to get me as much cash incase i need it for a new ship one day.

I wish there was also a match speed button like in most space games then i wouldnt have to do the speed myself as much.

Yes im moaning but meh.

Actually MUCH less populated than the 4 billion.
Have a looksee here

Only about 450 LY bubble.

Also - With those pennies, I'd personally get a Viper.
Combat Viper
That'll tear through things a lot quicker, lasers for shield, MC for hull.
Only cost 3 mill with 145 rebuy and can actually nip about and see some things with the scoop.

Set the FSD/Scoop/Cargo Hatch to a higher number (lower Proirity) in the modules panel.
They'll turn off when you deploy hardpoints.

Chaff or Shield Booster - Up to you

That'll make killing stuff a tad quicker :)

In regard to being able to reverse you have two options (both in the options menu) you can set your throttle so that it uses its full range in one direction then you use a key or button that you bind to actually reverse your thruster, so 0-100% forward, button press 0-100% backwards

OR

You can set your throttle so that halfway along its travel is 0% thrust, pull it back from that for backwards thrust push it forwards for forward thrust, this works best with a throttle that has a detent that you can set for 0%

As for getting shields down I think its just a case of practice, the sidewinder is good to practice in as its pretty agile, get in close behind the target so it cant use its main weps on you, maybe carry some chaff for those that have turrets but practice practice practice...that's why the sidey is so cheap

Hope this all doesn't sound patronizing and good luck

Im sure i had the throttle set up properly before but a few patches and i had to rebind it all again grr, but im sure i set it up so its.

That.

As the hotas x does have a notch in the middle which is full stop when its there, it doesnt do anything when i pull it back but if i push forward from middle notch it goes forward, tho not smoothly like it once did, it can suddenly go from say 20 to full speed with just a tiny nudge. half way up the throttle.

:/

Viper does sound nice but wouldnt a cobra but better apart from the shield dept and speed perhaps? Dunno how much it is to kit it out like but cobras are what 300k or so, where viper is i think 140k or somit tho i dunno how much vipers cost to kit out.

Does insurance cover bought parts or not as if i got one and i suck at it in combat and die with my first fight then ive lost a lot but if insurance helps with parts as well as barebones ship then ill look into it i guess. Just dont wana waste money as i dont play a lot so cant make it back as quick as others can.

I have a viper. Spent close to 3m on it. It is mostly maxed out. For fun I am just trying different weapon configs on it. Tomorrow I will sell it and move to a vulture :)

That said, does anyone know if it is best I sell the weapons separately or is it exactly the same if I was to part exchange. Last I checked I recall it saying around 2.8m credits for exchange on my viper.

For pure combat, a Viper is cheaper and IMHO, slightly better than a cobra.
Has better shields, smaller profile (less hits land on it) and more agile (can get on target easier).

Parts are covered by Insurance, with that Viper linked above, it is 145k rebuy.

It is up to you, but a Viper is much tougher than a Sidewinder and can kill any NPC ship in game

EDIT - Sell all your modules first, downgrade power plant to the lowest it'll accept etc.
You get 10% taken off your ship AND modules upon selling the ship as a whole.
Modules sell for 100% of their cost so if you do not sell them first, you lose out on 10% of the module cost.

So, Mac beta is out. Anyone tried it yet? Downloading it now and will try it on a macbook pro (possible massive fail coming up...)

Sound like your stick is not calibrated properly, the order to do things is
>calibrate stick/throttle in device software or windows control panel
>go into game settings and reset the axis making sure you are getting full deflection
>you may have to add a tiny bit of deadband to the axis if you find your getting creep at 0% (ie when you full stop in SC you get it jumping off of 30.0kph)

Also if you don,t use the reverse part of the range for a while it may start to go out of calibration so every now and then pull the throttle through its whole range

I would also add that the Cobra seems to be very vulnerable to ramming damage, whereas the Viper seems to be made of rubber and bounces off all but the largest contacts.

I've never lost my Viper in combat; in contrast I've lost my Cobra twice, both times by ramming (hits I know my Viper would have shaken off without breaking a sweat).

So what's a good cheap starter version of the viper for me? Also do you think gimbled weapons that auto aim a bit would be better or lazers. If gimbled how long does ammo last for in a fight. Also what kinda trading can I do in a viper as I won't be looking for combat if I can avoid it so needs to have some space to trade some wares.

Well, the Mac client works surprising well, getting 40-60FPS at 4k using my GTX970, not that much worse than I'm getting in Windows, so definitely playable. :)

Viper is the worst trading ship in game :D One of the best fighters though.

Better off with the hauler if you want to actively avoid combat, then do some rare trading as advised above.

If you aren't looking for combat and plan on trading, then you should not get a viper. Cobra will jump further, making your trading runs much less hassle, and it carries much more cargo, making them more profitable. And it is fast enough to run away from most ships (except vipers), or defend itself. The only reason to go Viper is for pure combat on a budget.

Yep - For a bit more, the Cobra is excellent as a multi-role ship - Also great for trading rares with a good FSD Drive.

Can hold it's own and is the fastest ship in game for running away!

Hmm after having a think. I've decided yeah I'll try fighting for once. Instead of playing it safe all the time worrying about losing my ship etc. So yeah hit me up with a viper load out that doesn't cost the earth but I have 7 mill so I can use some of it. I'm not one for doing a lot in the sence of worrying about managing weapon sets or heatsinks or anything other than point and shoot lol. So keep that in mind like weapon sets its either all one group or nothing lol.

Cheers. And the worst that will happen is I lose a few hundred k I guess after insurance. BTW insurance is automatic isn't it, u don't need to find someone to buy it then ur worry free? As I've never really bothered with it yet as never died in game yet.

I'll try some bounty missions or so it after I'm set. Hoping its vs easy prey. I doubt I'd ever do PvP tho.

My assets is around 7m now with more than half being liquid and I have a fully loaded viper, so you should be fine. Not easy to die in a viper, you can always just run, no one seems to catch me.

Thanks for the info Captain Fizz :)
