How long does this take you, and how much tonnage can you get with mining? Given some metals fetch upwards of 10K a ton, I can see the potential for huge profits, but I had heard it's VERY boring and takes an age. Or is that very much dependent on the mining equipment you have?

I'm not mining, I'm shooting stuff up :)

Got me a brace of Anacondas this evening.

For the Python just upgrade the main drive to class A and fit some class 2 burst/beams and class 2 multi cannons and cargo at 284 with a small shield for scrapes.

A grand total of 64million including the ship. Great for trade and interdictions. I would lose some cargo for a bigger shield, and when you can afford it Class 3 beams/burst, a shield cell and hull reinforcement and you can go to RES and own anything and still have 150-200 ton cargo space :)

Havent kept up with updates but seems some nice graphical touches have been added since I played this last, including a Ultra setting for environment detail I dont remember seeing before.

I still feel the game is too slow and grindy but I really do like flying around in my crappy little ships, stunning looking game!

The grind is as much as you make it. Granted for the larger ships of 50mil plus it takes a while and to kit them out to top level spec takes even longer thankfully.

You can do everything in game in a Cobra which takes no time to get and get in a WING with another 4 Cobra`s and you can have a great great deal of fun.

I bought a Cobra after a few weeks of grinding pathetic profit margins in trading. I then used a trade tool for a short time but even with that, I wasn't really making huge money. The highlighted trade routes in the galaxy map never yeilded me much results either. I dunno, I got the hang of flying/ship systems very quickly but never really leared the ins and outs of making real money, such as with rares etc :(

Then because I make so little money Im apprehensive about getting into battles for fear of losing everything I've grinded for lol

I discovered a route yesterday which yields 397k one way and then 280k on the way back, 4 jumps in total and about 5-10 minutes at the very max.
Roughly about 4-5 million in an hour. Once the prices of those items go down I'll just switch to gold and Beryillium which is also available in those 2 stations :D

If we did it with a full wing we would get an extra 60k each way too

Yup just need to keep that balance though as I noticed the prices definitely went down after you left.

I switched to trading runs with Perfectus to let them recover a little.

Just downloaded this now, right after my X52 arrived courtesy of eBay.

Loved the earlier ones so really looking forward to this. Lost a lot of my teenage years to Frontier and then got into Oolite when at Uni (probably not the best idea).

So after some nav beacon farming I have some good credits now, was thinking of getting a Cobra, how much should I have to purchase and get it up to spec.

Hi guys,

I've got a session planned this weekend with a friend who's just got the game. I'm fairly far out and I was, wondering how we'll actually meet up. Is there a way for him to spawn near me or is it just a case of a long haul flight?

Not sure if he'll be up for "open" play so if it's a case of solo or group etc then so be it!

Any ideas guys?

Also, anyone getting tired of getting kills nicked in RES's etc? People keep an eye on my targets and nip in at the last moment, I've lost count of how many 'condas that have been poached from me in the last three days! Grrrrr

With regards to your friend, you'll be better off going to meet him since you'll have a decent FSD by now in theory.

With regards to your kill stealing problem : beam lasers. Makes it very hard for them to get the last bit of you just hold your beams on them to finish them off. Just make sure you have enough juice to finish em off. Otherwise find a different system or go solo

I think I've put 50 hours into this (the first 15 -20 of which were pretty much wasted as I tried to get money by trading).

Once I hit up a decent RES and played tactically (you only have to get one shot on a wanted ship to get the bounty in solo) you quickly ramp up the cash. I bought myself an ASP and an just spending an hour a day dropping in and shooting stuff and racking up the credits.

My only issue is the ASP should really have 4 medium weapon points, and not 2, as its a little under gunned.

It's supposed to be an explorer ship so it's balanced out.

I was like you and thought the most money was to be made from RES but if you get a bad one then the amount you earn drops and it works out more profitable trading.

I had 50 million in cash and a fully loaded out Vulture and that was just via RES and a small amount of trading when I went for a Type 7 before moving back to the vulture, I then moved into a Python just this Sunday past and was left with 6 million credits, I just tricked the Python up for trading and I'm now on 17 million credits just 2 days later, close to half of what I made doing RES in over a month.

It is way more boring though and as soon as I have enough to trick this Python out for war I'm moving back to RES and bounty hunting in open play.

Why should I get a Clipper?
Nearly 30% reduction so if I want to get one, likely best to get one now...

But...
Vulture more fun for shooty-shooty...
Python better for PvE DPS / Multipurpose
I don't really pirate other players (Main reason for Clipper?)

Kinda want one to play with, just to see what it's like but seems nearly as expensive as a Python to get it up to spec and whilst the Python is slower / less manoeuvrable it has higher firepower and shields.

The clipper is way cheaper, the ship itself only costs 21 million and that's not including the 30% discount right now, the python on the other hand starts off at 57 million then take into account the price of the components.

OK, if you use an A6 shield it is a bit cheaper than the Python (A7 brings it close).

Fair do's, if the only reason it that it's cheaper, faster but weaker... Will give it a miss :)

One of my friends just bought it after losing his Python and not having the insurance for it, customer service support just gave him 56 million to buy the ship again.
He just bought a clipper instead and it's now more or less tricked out minus a couple of things.
You are right though, the vulture is an awesome ship and it's one I plan on buying again when I can.
