What's everyone planning to do ? Play solo, with no other other players involved, just a few friends, or the whole experience with all players on show ? Think I'll be going for the latter option - the universe will feel more alive, plus the thrill of engaging hostile human players adds an extra edge.

I'm assuming after release someone will set up a (un)offical OcUK group for us all to join :D

Not sure how they'll manage in game groups, whether it'll go as far as guilds or something less organised, maybe just a friends list.

Looks like it should take more than yesterday, if it does the same tomorrow might just hit that £1.5m barrier.

I did £90 just to get a real map to put on my wall. I remember the big blue one I got with Frontier Elite First Encounters for the Amiga 500.

:)
I too had this upon my wall and you want to know what else?
I used a load of the planet names for various characters in various MMORPG's I've played since.

paypal contributions will be kept open even after deadline. So its possible if the 1.5 million target is just missed that further paypal funding will see the goals met.

Really looking forward to this. Played the original Elites on my Spectrum 48k for months and then again on my Amiga 1200.

Is it just me being nostalgic but does everyone have fonder memories of those early gaming days compared to current titles? Even though the games were much more basic with limited graphics the feeling of excitement back then just seems somehow more powerful. I remember trawling the spectrum cassettes in Woolworths and walking away with Back to the Future, Rainbow Islands and Bruce Lee and loving it.

Must be getting old I guess :(

Yup, I went for £100. My only other kickstarter pledge was $75. For me the beta pushed it up to that amount, as I was already looking around 80 - 90.

This better be good.

If it does I'm upping my pledge :)

Same as me, except I was a C64 owner, then an A500 & eventually A1200 with 80mb hard drive.Wowzer!

The thing which we still needed back then, was imagination. Photo realistic graphics etc take away the necessity to imagine things more than what's actually there.

I'm sorely tempted to up my pledge, but the nearest tier which would interest me is the £80 one and that just seems an excessive amount of cash to drop on a game.

I'm badly tempted to go and dig out one of the elite PC ports now...

Just came to overclockers forum to find this post and it looks popular! Just pledged £20. Seems a good amount :) really hope this game happens! And soon. Wonder where they acturaly are in its development?

That's a good point, would be nice to have that child like imagination still!

This is the first game for a long time that has really got me quite excited, certainly the only Kickstarter project that got me to pledge.

That's kind of how I felt.....however.
Buy the game
Buy a couple of expansions and you're probably getting close to the £80 mark anyway. Spend £80 and you get the expansions for free.

I'm just toying with £90 for the boxed collectors edition as well.

See, I did think about that, but at this point we don't know how many expansions there will be, or how much they'll cost, so it's a bit of a gamble. And yes, if I pitched in for £80 it would only tempt me to chuck in just another tenner....

you pay 80 quid, then after 1 expansion its elite deadly...a new version! not an expansion so you gotta pay again :p
