How do you jump into a Black Hole / Neutron Star system without crashing to a halt? I've managed to map a couple of new Black Holes and Neutron Stars but the ship is getting hurt doing it.

I've just found a system with a black hole and 3 neutron stars I'd like to pop into but really don't want to risk the ship.

Incidentally there are flipping loads of the things where I am at the moment!

I promise to share once I get back but I don't want to lose out on the kudos :)

(exploring in an Asp btw... and I did forget to pack a repair kit)

You can set your speed to 0 (map "Throttle 0" to a key) whilst in Hyperspace, or even when the countdown is up.

Note - If chatting to people it seems not to take affect for some reason...
(Not even chat window up, just if you have chatted in the last 5 mins...)

So keep tapping Throttle 0 as you enter if you've been chatting.

20K apparently (plus a 50% finders fee if you are first)

Thank you both that worked really well. I'm hitting the zero throttle key every time I jump right now!

For the record, trying to explore a system with multiple black holes and neutron stars is WAY, WAY too stressful! You have to crawl up to the things and it takes ages.

I think I'll just jump into systems with them, map the main star and move on. If I can get one with an accretion disk I'll take a screenie but they've all been naked so far.

I wonder if the Asp comes with a Horlicks dispenser.....

On the way to Sag A* now - 10.7KLY from there and 15.8KLY from Sol. I really am in the middle of nowhere.

Stick every time. That will be a good starting point, but the thrustmaster flight x hotas is cheap and better.

It's downloading now but wont be back from work till 2 am

Guides tips and tricks for a total noob please?

Yep:
- don't panic. It's a lot to take in at first, but the very steep learning curve plateaus very quickly once you get the basics.
- play the tutorials or you'll be totally lost instead of only mostly lost
- don't worry about losing your ship at first since it's free to get another sidewinder, and don't bother upgrading the sidewinder. Save up for a cobra instead.
- you'll have plenty of questions when you get started, so it helps to get onto a teamspeak server with other people so you can just ask questions as and when.
- explore all of the navigation and function panels on your left and right sides. Get a feel for them so you can use them quickly when needed.
- to get cash quickly you might want to find a planet with metal rich rings (view the system map of a star system and click on a planet with rings) and go to it. Drop into a resource extraction site and try to get some hits on wanted ships that the police are shooting at. You'll get bounties for each kill that you can turn in at nearby stations for big money.

...yep... Just find a "Wanted" Anaconda in a RES, that's clearly flown there for no other reason than to commit suicide in the pointless mincing machine that exists there. Shoot it once with a tiny pee-shooter of a gun, and behold the glorious game mechanics as several seconds later as the police forced finish of destroying the vessel and you are awarded the 100,000CR for your solid effort - The huge risk you took, and the good game play you demonstrated.

Boy this game needs a big injection of "better game mechanics" IMHO. Kind of highlights it when people actually write down these poor mechanics down as if it should just be expected :(

Just managed a fly-by of another black hole I found onto the way to Sag A*. The gravitational lensing is seriously good to look at. I've saved in the next system and am going to go back and grab a shadowplay video of it (now I realised that ALT-F10 takes a screenshot AND stops it recording! (doh!)

You do know you can turn off the Police helping you right? :p

Report Crimes Against Me OFF. No more Unwanted Police assistance.

Thanks for your patience. We’ll soon offer Steam keys to anyone who bought Elite: Dangerous from our store.

Will this mean a reinstall ? Will it then live in the steamapps folder?
