I've had an email saying I've been charged but it's not appeared yet on my card, not sure how quickly it updates though.

The bank seems to be processing mine but hasn't take it out yet for some reason.

Gonna try my hand at X3 just to get in the space and trading mood (if I can understand it!)

The guys at the official forums are very friendly and open to helping newbies. Just don't expect to own your own capital ship or station for a while!

How many pledgers have played Eve Online?

Used to ; loved the ambience ... but gave up when the game began to feel like a 2nd job. Also, I didn't like the fact that deep space was accessible only through chokepoints. Restricted too many sectors within the game for those of us who like to explore freely. I can understand why the developers did it though - to encourage competition & territorial wars between large corporations.

I'm hoping that this iteration of Elite will cater for less PvP-centric gameplay. Eve was designed around that philosophy ( political & physical wars ). I don't believe that deep space / frontier space should be controlled as easily as it was in Eve. Players should be allowed to hyperspace in at any co-ordinate in a star system ....not just at a pre-defined jumpgate or chokepoint.

That said, I do want the risk of running into combat with pirates, feuding factions, fellow traders etc .... but, this is a Universe we'll be playing in. Groups of individuals should not be able to lock down large expanses of territory. They can defend static points like space stations, asteroids, planets etc .... that's fine.

Im actually goiing to play this SOLO then, just pootling around trading Narcotics in the biggest ship possible, looking for Thargoids all the time, wonder if it will still have the hyperspace bug so you get thargoids on every jump :)

Yup, I also played Eve, off and on for a long time. Loved it and keep thinking of returning, but, as Xaldub says it can easily turn into a 2nd job. I liked the fact with just a few hours a week I could afford to buy my monthly Plex making the game free-to-play.

I was never that interested in PvP so kept to safe(care bear) safe and did missions mainly, rat hunting and trading... Im hoping Elite allows me to pursue this kind of play rather than force PvP onto me, like Eve started to do, with my Corp getting War-Dec'd and increased Factional Warfare.

I would love a 3D model of one of the ships. Sadly I'm not prepared to spend that kind of money.

Ditto, ah well I'm backing a 3d printer. So hopefully when I get that up and running, can make my own.

A CNC,d solid aluminium one would be better though.

Im trying to find a decent 3d Model of any of the ships and so I can start printing my own very soon, so far ive drawn a blank and will have to start modelling one myself from some of the online artwork... I suck at modelling. :(

My Gaming obsession started with Elite, and FFE, and yes, I played EVE - a lot. I had my own recruited corp, complete with some 20 dedicated care-bear-ish members (I hate to call them that as they were all really good people) - but the corp was secretly funding my pirate main which I used to cause mayhem and destruction on a regular basis ;)

Eventually this came into the open and my pirate and his nefarious friends would come and assist the corp in open war. I remember running two instances across two screens - it was manic.

BUT like many others it became a chore - a second job, but the main reason I quit was I became disillusioned with the fact that all systems were basically two dimensional (barely any Up or Down), got fed up with warp gates sectioning off the universe - I always longed for hyperspace a'la star trek/star wars and yes, Elite, and I always, ALWAYS wanted real time control of my ship - not just point and clicky clicky.

Plus by the time I was richer than I could possibly imagine, could afford anything I wanted on a whim (and even had people available to come to deliver whatever it was to me) I just ended up using EVE as a glorious chat channel - spinning ships in the dock and wondering why I was paying a monthly sub.

I gave both my pirate main and my corp CEO alt away to the corp members, logged off and have never looked back.

I am still in touch with many that were in that original corp (but not the pirates funnily enough)...

Now KS has been reached I will sit for a year and patiently tap my fingers.

People wanting some Elite style gaming should check out this:

http://www.oolite.org/

It's basically a remake of the original but has lots of mods and is very playable. I'm up to competent already :)

Struggling to get into this, not sure why though.

So far ive managed to fly between two systems, buy some cargo and sell it for a slight profit (after fuel costs), but, if I get pulled out of warp by pirates on the way to the station I am going to die... :( need to work on my piloting/fighting skills. Only managed to kill 2 or 2 pirates so far and all using missiles, once im out of missiles im screwed.

It's certainly a throw back to the olden days! Struggled myself with it a lot to be honest, but I think it's partly due to the now archaic controls...we don't control modern PC games like this any more!

You are right there, it plays just like the old Elite. It does take a bit of getting used to the controls definitely. I've been using keyboard only and with a bit of practice and some decent ship upgrades I can take on and beat quite a few ships simultaneously. It's good retro fun :)

Try flying between Rich Industrial (buying computers) and poor agricultural (buying furs) and you will soon have some cash for upgrades. Get the beam lasers first.

Cheers, ill give it another bash, im trying to use an xbox360 pad for controls but the sheer number of buttons means im having to also use the keyboard for some things, I might try reverting back to just keyboard.

Wow multiplayer sounds epic.
Speed of Communication
Players will be able to communicate directly with each other. This has to be done instantaneously, otherwise we think it would be very frustrating. Space is truly huge, so an inter-system distance would mean delays of several years or more if we were being realistic!

to be honest this can be fixed for both aspects by tying it into a communications network. transmissions where a com's replay in a system are instantaneous, if systems are un explored a beacon i automatically placed from ships to allow instant communications.
this then would allow for added game play were by comm buoys can be destroyed thus preventing or slowing communications out of systems, adds the ability for missions such as repair comm buoy, deploy comm buoy, track/trace com buoy path ect. Giving a bit more realism

edit : oops well behind on reading.. though Glaucus's comment was on last page.
