Need oculus 2 with decent resolution, keep hearing its piculated as its so close to the eyes.
Still just out of reach technology wise or at least to a price point.

Make sure you suggets things on the forum, its not unkowen for devlopers to over look small things.
 
The HD version of the oculus should be fine, which will be the release version. Current dev kits do have pixellation issues, but apparently the HD version is well down the development path.

Dano, agreed, my pedals will have to come out of the attic too!
 
For me I think they have two different roles. Trackir is great for situational awareness, especially in air combat. Oculus is really for immersion, but im not sure if its so good for SA, or will need to be with the radar (at least in elite). I know with trackir I am constantly - constantly - scanning the skies and very little gets the hop on me. If i were to try that with the oculus i suspect I may put something out of joint.

Not sure, but I'd take a look at the Elite forum, because there are some people over there running the alpha with surprisingly low specs (with the bells and whistles turned down, obvs).

Yeah, I have done in the last couple of days actually - there's a large thread relating to an ED-suitable rig on there that I'm gradually working my way through.

I'm fully aware that my current setup is pretty prehistoric and I'm going to have to upgrade eventually - was poring over the component pages on here at midnight last night pricing up bits with that in mind - especially with ED coming up and my other gaming addiction World of Warcraft getting a graphic overhaul with the next expansion pack :eek:

As I understand it, my CPU is probably the weakest link in the chain, not being a quad-core ...

My rig's OK, but I was considering an upgrade for Elite. Having seen some of the system specs that people are maxed out on though, it looks like I'll need to find another excuse ;)
 
All I can say is that its amazing... I have been playing it again and again over the weekend... I just cannot get enough :)

I did not pledge enough money to get into alpha/beta and I'm not going to throw 200 quid at it now. Instead I threw £1k into Frontier Dev shares and they are doing really rather well thanks to the Alpha so I'm pretty chuffed.

Yeah Braben raised like 5 million wasnt it, through that. Was thinking about it but was worried about SC being a long term spoiler. Seems to be doing well though.

Isnt it just a series of combat missions? So you cant really explore as such. I've been watching the videos and i do like what i see. The basic gameplay seems to be good :) (ie old skool Elite goodness)
 
The game play is really good the game feels really polished for an alpha test and seems to run really well even for people on older hardware

One tip though if you are going to get the game and haven't already get yourself a good joystick :D

Yes, the alpha is just combat... but they'll then release other tests in the coming weeks/months...
