Not suprised really, probably for the better than officially releasing a game that isn't fully fleshed out and progressively patching in the content and having people dissapointed in the short term.

No brainer really. Just over 1 year to develop a game of this magnitude was a tall order. Rather they delay it and get it right.
(But not to the point of doing a Duke Nukem).

Someone posted xmas 2014 on the forum but others pointed out he was just pulling the leg of another poster and as yet no one linked to an official source for a late year release.

Cost is a matter of perspective, I'm sick of the regurgitation of games I've played to death over the past 5 to 25 years.. I've longed for a new Elite for decades and it won't be dominated by spoilt teen brats gobbing off with their xXxnamexXx malarkey.. I think my £100 for such is a bargain.

BBC wants £150 for a year of brain-dead TV, the nations largest publically funded child abuse ring. Like I say, perspective.

/Mini rant.

Not brought a JS yet, I understand Saitek has a new one on the way so I'm going to wait and see what that's like.

Just through in the mail

As a Founding Member you are already one of the 'elite'!

But, if you want to take part in the ongoing Alpha, we've made it even easier and have applied an additional discount just for you. For a limited time you will be able to upgrade to Alpha access, including the multiplayer build coming next week, for just £50.

I am already in the Alpha too.:o

I only have the pledge that gets me a digital download but if I received that email i'd bite their arm off for it!

Has any watched the the developers diary updated posted by David the other day? At one point he talks about releasing it once polished and in the background there's Youtube video's pointing out all the flaws in X-Rebirth.

A note about getting emails from them... By default it seems you are not subscribed to get emails from Frontier. You need to log into the shop and enable your email subscription from there.

I was going to hold off until Beta so that I'd be playing something nearer the finished game. Since timescales of getting to Beta look like they are going to be a bit longer than first suggested, I'm going to jump into the Alpha for the £50 upgrade.

Looking forward to playing it over the weekend :)

I upgraded last week - I wasn't credited with my full discount, but they are looking into it. Their customer service isn't bad, but don't expect quick responses. The forum is also pretty decent, not much evidence of hostility compared to others.

It was well worth it, imo, given the tremendous feedback the alpha has already received.

Having played it, I have no regrets at all. I've got my joystick configured the way I want after a bit of trial and error, and really enjoy playing through the missions.

The multiplayer alpha is due for release any day now. I'm sure I'll get slapped around, but it will be interesting to see what surprises Frontier have in store.

Just got the email today also, I complained about this to their customer services since originally the pledge level of the beta was £150 on KS but now its £100, hence need to pay £100.

For £50, Im in :)

I'm signed up for 2nd phase Beta (Kickstarter Special with life time DLCs)... I'm still happy to wait for that given the cost of the Alpha.

It was mentioned in one of the stickies posted by a mod in terms of the timeline from alpha, the various stages of beta and then gamma to the end of the year before official release.

Monday confirmed for the multiplayer alpha, with four MP scenarios with those scenarios earning you credits that can be spent on ship loadouts. This is going to be a long weekend...

Having huge fun with the Alpha, and I'm really glad I took up the £50 offer. The most important thing to me is that it actually feels like an "Elite" game even at this early stage. Like many I've been waiting a long time for a sequel and I think it is heading very much in the right direction. I spent so much time playing both Elite and Frontier in my youth.

This may sound odd, but I was worried that shiny modern graphics may have taken something away from the game. So much about the original Elite was down to your imagination, you almost filled in the gaps in the vector graphics.

I'm reading a lot about "combat" and "must get a joystick" and that makes me fear it isn't Elite.
But as I've not played any release of it yet (roll on beta) I can only hope it still has the same feeling as before.

I'm playing with a 360 pad and think its not all that bad. A proper flight stick may be better, but you'll get away with a pad.

I played the original Elite on my Beeb and Amiga with a simple joystick and the keyboard. I'm for the most part intending to play Elite : Dangerous single player, so I don't think It'll be at all that much of a disadvantage with the 360 pad.
