I played the original Elite on my Beeb and Amiga with a simple joystick and the keyboard. I'm for the most part intending to play Elite : Dangerous single player, so I don't think It'll be at all that much of a disadvantage with the 360 pad.

Why SP mode? to avoid the lemons and pvp'ing? I plan on playing private group so I can coop with some pals from time to time.

More than welcome to join up if you wish the same sort of gameplay. As long as you start a private group char, the way I understand it, you have the choice to play alone or with like minded folks when you choose to.

When they are done with alpha, not for a while and no one knows, not even them. Its a matter off when all alphas have been released and they're happy with them. At the moment only one alpha has been released, second alpha tomorrow and I believe two more alphas to come.

Oh i see, i remember them saying that beta was march 2014 although i guess it could go beyond that. Good aslong as they get the game right, if Braben cannot make this game then nobody can, its Braben or forget it in my opinion.
 
pff delays. The purpose of an alpha is for players to identify the bugs, let me at it already :D

This alpha is already more polished than some AAA rated titles that have been fully released for months.

It does look good, but it's very limited content at the moment. It seems that ED is testing specific functionality in turn with the alpha builds. It's only when the beta arrives that we'll see all the different features start to come together into a game.

I tried playing one of the co-operative missions yesterday and while trying to figure out what to do (the mission to protect the ship while it repairs its drive), the first thing that happens to me is that some kind person opens fire on me.

It's a co-op mission not a pvp. I think its pretty much par for the course and one of the main reasons I'll not be in multiplayer in the full game.
