*** The Official Elite: Dangerous Thread ***

Im struggling. I'm pledged to ALD, I'm at a Zack expansion system, looking for an instance to blow stuff up to get merits. But cant find any.
What am I doing wrong?

Click on the Galactic Powers menu on Left Panel '1' then click on Galactic Power Standing then click on the Power you want to Oppose and then click on the type of system and it will tell you what to do. For example, for Torval who I am pledged to, we tried & failed to opposed Winters' Expansion into Reieni with you guys in ALD. To do this we went to Reieni & shot down their Fed-Aid ships for 30 Power Bonds a pop. These power bonds we then took back to a Torval Control System where they we converted to Merits (you'd take them back to an ALD Control System) - we also got a few k in credits per kill as well. Winters isn't expanding into anywhere this cycle so have a look at one of her Control systems in the Galactic Power Standing & it will tell you what to do. For example, to undermine Winters in Bunda I have to shoot down her Federal Couriers for 30 Power Bonds which are then converted into Merits by being taken to a Torval Control System). If I was Oppose an ALD Control System like Gende I would have to steal cargo from ALD supply ships in Gende (this of course I would not do as Torval & ALD are allies :) ). Hope that helps. If not just give me a buzz.

EDIT: Zachary Hudson is not expanding this cycle either, if you look under the Expansion tab under Galactic Power Standings it is blank so if you want to go after him click on Control, then on a System & it will tell you what to do to get the merits; shoot down Fed Logistics Vessels… try & pick one other commanders are working on - look for systems marked as 'Under Threat'.

Does anyone have a recommendation for somewhere to run passenger missions?

Looking to complete the A rating of my anaconda. The 8A power plant is crazy expensive :(

Get allied with sol factions and then run stacked missions to Mildeptu - Buchli city.

115kls away but you can pick up 2-3 million each mission, minimum 1.5m. So upto 10 million each trip on a good set of mission on the boards or you can session flip if you are OK with that for more. Takes 15 mins round trip. That's where I am based for topping up my credit balance for my fed promotion.

I have Fully fitted out my Anaconda with business cabins as there is little need for anything else.

You can make upto 30million an hour or so.

Excellent, thanks for the tip :)

I have been hanging around Diagurandri and surrounding systems doing missions getting around 1m per trip.

Nearly got my conda where I want it to be. The 8A power plant will allow me to add another couple of shield boosters. Currently running the 7A plant.

Need a Conda first though yeah?

Bummer. I've got 350Million a rated vulture and an explorer ASPx and a couple of Cobras and sidey's but was hoping not to spend big as it took so long to get the cash to where it is now. the thought of getting rid of most of it and starting again hurts.

Although I suppose a couple of days doing that run will have me back up again.

You could throw a few cabins in your Asp and do some runs, or buy a Dolphin and do the same until you are happy to buy an Anaconda.

Played the heck out of this at launch and haven't played since a month or two after. Anyone able to give a few bullet points of what the DLC has added and what I should look to do getting back into it ?

If you mean Horizons, it adds the ability to land on planets (not atmospheric ones).
Some planets have both human & alien crash sites, planetary bases, Engineer base, geysers etc.
These are going to be improved in Beyond patches.

You can also find the Guardian alien(?) bases & Thargoid bases (below).

Probably forgetting some bits, but Horizons is worth the price as otherwise, you're just stuck in space. ;)

Multicrew, wings, planetary landings as above, engineers to tweak your ships, powerplay, cqc, avatars, thargoids... uhm quite a lot if you really have only played for a month or two from launch.

If you have 350 million banked, why would you need to trade all of that in? You don't need a fully A-rated Conda to be able to do passenger runs, just perhaps an A-rated FSD and also the cabins, which aren't expensive at all. You'd also need a few small cargo racks as some mission payouts also give you stuff for Engineers, which get sold anyway but you can't complete the run without the space to accept the goods.

Search for a Li Yong-Rui controlled station that sells an Anaconda near you using https://eddb.io/station, and you'll also get a big discount to the purchase of the Anaconda and any modules that you buy from that station. This helps massively when buying the larger ships. The Anaconda comes in at just over 126 million vs the 147 million normal cost, which makes a big difference.

And bear in mind, if you're pulling in just over 30 million an hour, the cost is surely worth it?

Also, I should add that I've been doing passenger runs in a Python and I can pull in about 7 - 8 million per run. I'm board-flipping anyway because I'm fed-ranking, so I just choose passenger missions that award about 2 - 3 million per trip and I can usually take 3 of these until my cabins are full.

Why use a Conda anyway for passenger missions?
Rarely do you need to move large number of passengers for missions.
I ended up using an Orca for mine. Great jump range and fast. Mine doesn't even have weapons as it can outrun things, which also means a smaller powerplant, less mass and better jump range.
