Yeah that sounds rubbish. Ill probably prefer VR when they move away from wearing a hot brick on your face and the image quality vastly improves.
again to each their own but am genuinely not sure what you mean by vastly improves. perhaps I am easily pleased having come from the development kits and am now on my 5th headset but I find the image quality on my quest pro (and also on my previous reverb G2) to be very good.

so much so that if the Mrs is in bed and I am alone I even watch movies on my headset now for the cinema experience.
I would say it's not *quite* 4k quality but i still think it is very good. given a choice of my 70inch 1080p LED TV or my 4k oled 65ibch screen or my quest pro, I am taking the quest pro every time.

I am fortunate to have a top end PC in which I can maximise pretty much any game and I enjoy playing it on a 4K OLED.
When I put my VR headset on it's like I'm stepping back a generation, I have looked at tweaks to improve things, increase the bit rate as high as it can go and still it just seems off, It's by no means terrible, but it is noticeably worse, especially as I use a scaler on elite so I'm actually running it at higher than 4K. Unfortunately I cannot do that with the VR because the extra overhead kills even my PC (maybe I need a new GPU)
The biggest thing of course that I miss is the proper black that OLED gives.

For me comfort is key and I don't think wearing something on my face is ever going to trump not wearing something on my face. I don't wear glasses either so I just don't really like having anything there. It's nice to have the option though for when I do feel like flying around in space in VR for a few minutes

Edit: To clarify, I'm not saying ED looks like it drops a gen, I mean general Vr stuff, it is however noticeably worse to me.

Wow, I have to say, switching to two sticks for HOSAS really is an absolute game-changer. I actually feel way more immersed in the flight now, although jeez it's taking some getting used to! I tried to dock last night and couldn't even make it through the toast rack, got stuck and swung around into a position I've never ever been in before and almost got blown to bits lol!

I'm harvesting materials at the dead Titan in Sol at the moment but I'll be practicing docking some more tonight I think!

I hope I get mine soon. I saw actually somebody was selling a set on the members market but too far away for me to collect.
I was tempted by the vkb stuff but then I started reading about creaking plastic and stuff. So I just thought no, stick with what you know.

I would love to get some of the really high end gear.... but I just can't justify it really when I have 2 perfectly functional (if both very right handed) sticks.
part of me is kind of hoping one packs up :D

I know what you mean, I'm kind of hoping my monitor gets burn-in in a about a year or so.

Bet you're better at the game than I'll ever be. I'm classic all the gear and no idea player.

lol I dunno. I play purely for the immersion of flying space ships. years ago I made strict rules WRT engineering so I can't get those stupid OP meta ships which are both almost indestructible in PvE but equally bordering on a base line requirement in PvP.
I always choose gear which makes the game more fun (for me) which is not necessarily more effective in game.
as a pilot i would say I am very average.

Yep, I absolutely hate metagaming. Sometimes you will figure stuff out on your own that happens to be strong and you may be playing meta builds without realising it.
But I've never understood the mentality when someone hasn't even played a game and they're watching videos like how to get the best stuff straight away as quick as possible etc.
I blame zoomers.

Then avoid open, stick to solo or better yet a private group. Avoid the kiddies/gankers and general idiots, which thankfully ED doesnt have many of

I never play open :) I don't play to be someone else's content.

@MostlyHuman Glad to hear your sticks are going strong. I felt I was tempting fate moving to plastic from metal is all. I actually think the VKB space..(forgot name) would be better fit for my hand as on the Alphas I have to shift my hand to reach the pinky button, to the point I think I just won't bother binding it in future, not like it's lacking buttons.

Where did you order yours from? Did you go for T16000s as well? At the moment a single stick is £44.99 on Amazon so two are far cheaper to buy that way, a saving of about £15 - £20 on the set.

No I got Virpil Alpha Primes, same as what I started off with and then sold to vidar lol.

Ah ok, I've read that the Virpil gear is good as well, so I'm sure it'll do you well!

I think the VKB Space Evo set would have been fine tbh, I think I'd struggle going to the entry level stuff but I reckon I'd have got used to the VKB NXt Evo? set but seems a pain to find it in stock in the UK, I think you get stung getting it from the EU store. The Gunfighter MK IV base and Space Grip set brings it up close to Virpil price.

Edit: SO I just priced up the NXT Evo on the UK site and a pair of mounts per my VPC order, it comes to £683, which is a £341 saving over my current order, and although that is a lot of money to me, doesn't seem a big enough saving to consider trying it instead (the premium right hand grip is out of stock anyway).

I'm in the same place with VR in general ; it can be "cool" to use for a while, but ultimately I don't find it comfortable wearing a headset for more than 30 mins and the image fidelity is a step back compared to gaming on a 4K OLED. I think we're at least 2-3 generations out from both of those things being addressed.

Agree, but I will say that the Quest 3 is a massive step up from the 2 I first tried. And HL Alyx maxxed out on it is pretty much spot on IMO :) Nearly there I think! Certainly understand @bigmike20vt love of it, I would if it were not just for some of the current niggles I have with it comfort/fidelity/hassle. It's by no means as bad as my posts may come across though.
