******* The "official" Essential iPad Apps thread (with stars) *******

All my purchases from iTunes got my debit card 'temporary locked' had to ring up Natwest fraud team lol...

Got a few apps so far.

  • Krafty Kuts - against the grain: its for iPhone but has the thing so you can enlarge it to full screen. Rather fun to mess around with the samples

    Air Video: great ofc

Angry birds: fun as it is on my ipod touch

Osmos HD: Pretty nice game, not so easy though i have found so far

    Uzu: Rather random but cool

Paper Toss HD: Wastes some time :)

Natwest application: Checks balance etc so is pretty neat -- for iPhone but can enlarge it

iAmJazz, BeatBox Ultra, TechnoBox: Same developer i think. Pretty damn fun. Try and make something what sounds good - 59p i think each if i remember correctly.

FlickFootball: Rather disappointing. Doesn't feel good compared to the iPhone football penalty game i have.

Now.. why the hell doesn't it have a calculator or a clock on it???

Calculator for HD iPad. Pretty nice, shouldn't have to buy one though.

Touch LCD: Clock and alarm clock. Its cool. Tap it and it 'says the time' pointless ish... but it has a night mode which is dark but the time is readable (also low power i guess)

Pages: Bought it.. might be useful in future if i can start typing faster on the device. Emailing the documents seems easy enough!

Sketchpad HD and Doodle Buddy: Basic i guess, need a stylus though.?

TouchPad: Used touchmouse on my ipod touch. This one seemed the best for iPad.. does what it says i guess though not used it much

iDisk and Find iPhone.. only using as i got a mobileme trial. iDisk i just found odd and had an annoying time setting it up for some reason.
Find iPhone.. well i only have an ipod touch so its rather useless then. Also seems slow anyway
Quite a few things there.. need to see if i can find any more free games really..
Also a messenger application

HandBrake will convert DivX, takes about 20mins on my machine to convert a 700mb ish file.

Nah, cba to convert.

Tbh, i'm dissappointed at how restrictive it is to use. Its the apple way or no way.

I only use it in the toilet where the form factor is handy. Having to pay to actually use it also poor. There needs to be some more freebies from apple to sell it.

Questions.

Is there anyway to put pdfs on it? I would quite like to read academic papers on it.

Can the itunes client browse the local itunes DAAP server over wifi?

sid

any good with uk channels like radio 1 and others ????

Yup, you can browse by Local Radio by GPS, Sports, Talk, Music, World, Browse by Location (City, Country etc), Top Stations.

The Local Radio by GPS was even picking up my local community Radio station, Sunny Govan! Location has all the BBC, XFM, Jazz etc.

If the station your listening to is broadcasting song/track information it even links you direct to iTunes to purchase.

Got IM+ lite earlier, didn't want to pay for the full version.

There was a thing what lets you talk and it converts the speech into text. So bought it for 59p (per month) and it was dreadful. I tried speaking slower and clearer but it still failed.
Though on msn the voice message worked fine :) It makes a link though with the recording on and sends the link, not like normal where you just click play. Thought the quality of the built in mic was pretty damn good.
