******* The "official" Essential iPad Apps thread (with stars) *******

Guys

I've been charged twice for the same app I got months ago, whats the fastest way of contacting iTunes?

Looked at the support website but its scripted questions?

Thanks Mart

Go to the iTunes Store in iTunes and click on your email address in the top right, put your password in and you can look at previous orders, each one will have an option to report a problem, they usually come back to you in around 24hours.

Can anyone spec me a audio recording app for my ipad2?
Tried a few free ones but they seem to crash a lot which isn't too handy!

Only real requirement is that it carries on recording when my smart cover is down.
Any suggestions?
Cheers :)

What would be the advantage of using this over the usual Mail app on the iPhone?

The main advantage is better starred / label / trash / spam support I suppose. Deleting / spamming items on the Mail client doesn't work quite the same as with the Gmail website and moving something to starred removes it from the inbox.

Silly question but how do you add a MKV to an iPad2? My friend has just bought AVPlayerHD and wants to watch a video but we don't know how to add it. iTunes won't allow the video to be drag and dropped and the iPad doesn't show as an external drive.

EDIT - Never mind :)

Bit of a stupid question but is there anyway to save webpages for 'offline' mode? Basically I have a long commute on a train with no net, I could do with being able to save numerous tabs on articles I want to read then do so later on the train

Anyone know how or potential options?

*EDIT - Instapaper does the job for this for anybody with the same problem

Also was wondering if there are any programming related apps other than 'coders' by Michael B?

Need to get up to scratch asap and figured these could be handy for my hour long commute as my 1000000page vb.net book isn't doing me too many favours

Hey guys,

Got my iPad 2 the other day and i'm loving it so far but i'm not too sure which are the bellwether apps for certain areas..

Which is the best PDF manager?

I got it for uni really, it helps so much having all my lecture and tutorial notes and slides with me without the huge weight of my MBP.

Like, erm er how does one put them onto the device aswell? Which is easier, drag and drop would be good I suppose..

Movie playback

What is the best app/way of chucking my .avis and .mkvs onto my ipad?

and finally, i've seen air drop or something mentioned a few times...?

Cheers! :)

For PDF Files look at GoodReader, PDF Expert and iAnnotate. For reading alone GoodReader is probably enough but if you want to annotate them then look at the other two.

For movies AVPlayerHD is superb.

To put files on your iPad, you need to use iTunes, go to apps and at the bottom will give you a list of programs you can drop files onto. Or the program might be able to take them off the net or via wireless.

Was just coming on to recommend AVPlayerHD but looks like jazz has already done so.

Playing 720p MKV files superbly.

Asked this on the iPhone 4S thread but didn't get a response, I know the iPad2 can handle 720p MKV with the A5 chip but can the iPhone 4S with it's underclocked version?

Being able to play MKV files directly is all very well but they just take up too much space. I'd much rather spend a little time crunching them down using Handbrake so they don't take up all the space on my iPad.
