The *Official* Eve Online Thread

@Rroff

What happens once through the wormholes? Is this where there is no security anywhere so it's a free for all? Is it all called null sec or just parts?

I went in a few times with someone else. Preferred the training wheels on tutorial :D

Wormholes can lead to any type of space but w-space specifically is an area separate to the known space Eve map without NPC stations, security status or regular gates just linked by shifting wormholes so you need probes to find connections.

While it is a free for all those who inhabit it tend to group into various alliances some friendly to each other, others hostile, etc.

Null sec is a part of k-space and unrelated to wormhole space, though you can get wormholes which link to null sec systems.

Remember if you are new that ships are just ammo to be used up, and there are plenty of players and groups around willing to chat and help out newbros

Having just started, it's hitting that sci-fi/space itch. Already clocked 40 hours and can see myself going down the rabbit hole.

Taken a while to find a corp I like - went for a rag tag bunch on the edge of low sec. Small group in an alliance quite new. We've got a corner to ourselves atm and slowly mining and building up.

I've been skilling up for pve (hoping for pvp). Got to say the rookie chat is really helpful. The newbie agent missions are quite good and give you isk and ships.

I made another omega account to start mining and fund my hopeful pvp plans.

Can be quite difficult - I jumped in with a bunch of people from here which was a good way into the game, also my brother and a friend of his were/are in Pandemic Legion so hung out a bit with them with an alt though they mostly stopped playing around the time I started the game - I actually passed up on the game until watching my brother running C6 wormholes with friends in Moros dreads - and I only really enjoyed the capital side of the game as far as flying stuff goes as small ship flying isn't for me.

(Funny thing is I jumped into the game with the intention of flying a Moros in wormholes without any clue as to just how long that would take to accomplish).

Where I've got to:

Now using Eve-o client which is quite slick tbh.
Mining going well. Have two retrievers one ore one ice. Just upgraded the ore to level 2. Getting decent background isk. Moon ore seems to be more lucrative.

Need to take note of when the ice comes back to mine that. Got a few saved bookmarks for decent asteroid belts which for some reason spawns larger blocks - less micromanagement.

Got two clones across the Universe on the pvp account. One is stood in the Gallente FW sector. Learning the ropes there - mainly tackling and dying with the atron but accruing LP.

Managed to connect with a good lp buyer. Less than me working the market but saves me tons of time.

I've just had an order of 5 new bro fitted algos delivered. Ready for a Friday night of pvp (most likely will lose them all lol).

I never got really into it because I was playing WOW back then but went on old account last year and saw it was all micro transactions to boost skills etc and it was swiftly deleted.
I guess I always liked the fact you were stronger the longer you were subbed/training for, now you can get there by spending money. Doesn't compensate for knowledge of the game though.

Tbh it's a decade old game. Players wanting to catch up and play at the same level as their friends have this option.

No different to "buying" gold in wow with the token. The cost for sp is considerable though. Unless you're Billy big balls , you'd have to spend a fair amount to catch up years of sp.

I haven't bought any plex or sp yet. I quite like the new player experience and enjoy logging in to say what access I have to new guns/ships/modules.

Yeah I don't play WOW anymore either though gold I found didn't have much value anyway until you could subscribe by buying some token I think.

Checked my character and it has 17m SP so nothing really I guess. Tbh I don't know what to measure it against But I subscribed for a few months and just trained character skills. I didn't actually spend much time playing. Never even joined a player corp, just used to bimble about.

Tbh you can solo but a decent corp is where it's at. The one I'm in is on evenings every night actively pvping.

Got to say I was expecting eve to be quite empty. Seems really active. Players everywhere and always some war going on. The market is active.

Think that's what puts me of. I don't play to be someone else content. So prefer to stick to high-sec and avoid PVP entirely.

In my experience, the bigger the ships, the less skill you need and the less fun you have.

Small fleets are by far the most fun IMO.

Albeit small ship flying is one area of the game with a high skill ceiling and it is easy to use larger ships in lazy mode to compensate for effort/skill but the thing with Eve is it depends on how far you (in general) push it - you can also utilise larger ships to take on bigger risks, situations which require more skill. For example some posters in this thread would roam solo or with 1-2 friends in larger ships (Maelstrom, Vindicator, etc.) and take on the odds. Stuff like dread bombing doesn't require much skill but say flying a triage carrier (now force auxiliary :( ) to be able to fight against huge numbers can be very skill demanding and personally something I find fun, though other people might not.

Personally I didn't enjoy small ship flying, it isn't a skill set which comes naturally to me and/or I find interesting skills so the level of concentration to do it well overshadows the fun from it, whereas pushing the edge with larger ships was something I found much more engaging.

Update: joined public fleets to get a hang of tactics etc. Our tiny corp now has 3 athanors pulling moon pieces out to mine.

We started doing drills between experienced and inexperienced fleets with the alliance. Getting ready for our move to null.

I've been spending far too much time in ship fits. More time fitting than flying. It's like a mini game.
