Do you not find killing innocent noobs in frigates in Pakkonen a bit... harsh and irritating? :p
I found it fun on the one occasion I did it. I'd just got a Scorp and wanted to test it. Let's just say the results were, erm... satisfactory ;)

K.

Right I've got a 14 day trial waiting for me when I get home. I've never played an mmorpg before so have no idea what I'm doing. Obviously I'm going to read the player guide but was just after some tips from people who currently play the game.

R0551, join channel 'ocuk' and we can give advice...

It's not just ocuk corp in there, we have people from other corps and lifestyles, and we're all friendly (well apart from Dan :p)

Oh yeah, and don't trust Feek ;)

[edit]
Oh yeah, to join the channel, click the 'channels' button which is on your neocom (bar on left side of screen), click 'create/join' type 'ocuk' in the dialogue box and hit ok.

Cheers for that dymetrie, will do as soon as I've d/l it. Just had a quick look at the player guide, dear god there's a lot of info there.

It is a truly HUGE game, with more content being released on thursday (preliminary reports suggest)..

Sunday night there were nearly 20,000 people online

Before you start, what kind of thing do you want to do?

For combat you'll want a character with high perception and willpower (for training ships and weapons).

For trading/manufacturing you'll want one with high memory, intelligence and charisma.

It doesn't really matter which race you start as, other than the ship and skills you start off with (Caldari best for science type stuff, Minmater best for fighting, Amarr best for trade and Gallente best for... erm... drones), once you have a foothold you can train whatever you want (for example, I have an Amarr character who flies solely minmater ships, and a Caldari character who flies everything).

Try not to be daunted by the size of the game, you'll find that there isn't much you can do straight away (at least not do well) but by the end of the two week trial you should be having fun. There is a LOT to learn, but it is definitely worth it :)

R0551, if you need any help dont hesitate to ask, either on the forums or in game. The OCuk crew would be suggested as your first starter corp, owing to there recorde of training new members in the game.

Some tips,
1) train your learn skills (Buy the skills from the market) to LVL5 ASAP, but leave your self enough room to train other skills to enable you to be usfull in the short term.
2) try to always train something, even if the skill takes 25 days. train it in stages if your other skills only have 2 hours or so.
3) perhaps one thing you should start to train is our indusry ship skills to get a hauler.
4) some skills can take 20+ days to learn use these skills as stepping stones train them when you don have anything else to train in the short term.
5) try not to get discurraged, the game can be slow getting of the ground, but can be fun
6) Dont lissen to a thing i just said you cant trust a corpse :)

Contact me in game and i can give you a little isk a ship and some modules if you want.

For fighting i'd suggest Caldari as they can tailor there damage a lot more easerly than other races at the start, they specialise in missiles.
Use Amar if you don't like ammo weapons. - i'd suggest this is a good starting place fr new members mainly for the no ammo reason.

Ro551, about what lostcorpse said about training skills.... If you're in the game for the long haul 6 months+, then they're worth training. If you're just trying the game out, I'd focus on your focus skills, the ones that are core to your prefered path.

I've only been ingame 4 months or so, so what I say of from the view of a n00b. The game has a steep learning curve, and if you're the type to want instant 'uber' weapons to kill anything you meet, or to be able to fly huge ships within two days of starting, then you're going to be severely dissappointed.

If you like games with depth, complexity, and flexibility, you'll like EvE, because it's all that, and much more.

i tend to find the market alone is a skill in its self.

BTH Eve is not really any different from the real world. Like the real world eve has its own set of rules which you have to learn and which change depending on were you are.

Example if you go into a security zone of 0.4 and lower you can will other players with out the police interfearing, but watch what you kill as your target may have friends and alliece.

Allience rules are different to faction/race rules.

nah mate I was at a planet and he started approaching me at 300ms from 38km away so i locked him up (which takes ages in an indy) , put 2 webs, 2 scrams and 2 damps on him and then blasted away while my 2k armor tanked him :P.

Shooting frigs and cruisers in a battleship could be called 'lame' but hell i'll still do it. But in a badger its class when you just imagine the look of horror as an industrial ship takes them down. :D

i think its a lot better now than it was, its no longer bigger=better (apart from the Titans with its UBERWEAPONS OF DOOOOOOOM, and even that has its weaknesses) so a new player can take on a larger ship, in their little one, in a group that is, and not worry about being instantly owned.
I just wish that they would have the correct calculations are used/quoted for tracking etc, as the calculations don't add up.
