That was a great card, great to see Swick back and getting a win against a worthwhile opponent.

Lauzon looked fantastic against a dangerous opponent, who knows if Varner had been in slightly better shape who knows what would have happened.

Shogun looked knackered by the end of the first round! Machida on the other hand looked very sharp and glad to see he is getting the No.1 contender... not that he stands a chance against Jones though!

Vera doesn't get enough credit, like somebody said above about Shogun taking more damage than they thought, I don't see why because Vera has always had standout striking, its just the rest of his game that's pretty bad.

As for people talking Machida vs Jones, I cannot believe your looking past Dan Henderson. No real MMA fan can do that, I honestly believe Henderson is going to shatter Jones' jaw, and then Machida is gonna counter-strike his face off just like he did last night against Bader.

Either that or blow him in half with a hadoken, what a Ryu looking mother******. :p

If Jones does beat Hendo, though, and then beats Machida I don't know if I'll ever watch this division again. I dislike Jones strongly, he's such an arrogant douche, not a Tito style arrogant-for-his-image fighter, hes just a bad person. Look at Machida, he gave Bader nothing more than what was required to put him away, if that was Jones in that situation he'd be smashing away, just look what he did to Machida after the choke, disgusting. Hes fake in my opinion, his whole personality is fabricated by his lame fight camp, and essence of douche is slipping through from time to time. I'm not saying MMA should be all the nice guys winning etc. but if you are as talented as Jones, why be a douche? It just ruins him, part of me wants to like him because of his fighting skill but hes a complete ****.

And I'm a big Bisping/Sonnen/Koshcheck fan...

The difference is, those three act like douches to promote fights, and (Koscheck especially) are completely manipulated by the media, with only parts of their interviews being shown etc to paste them off in the most negative light possible, which tbh I do think they like that, because they know anyone with a brain can tell they aren't bad people, and it does nothing but help them sell their fights, but man...

Me no likey Bewnz Jewnz.

I think if bones wins against hendo and machida... and perhaps beats shogun/gus, he needs to move to heavyweights and let jds destroy him :)

He's already said that he'll stay at 205 until hes too old to make the cuts, so that'll be a long time. :(

By the time he goes to HW there will be somebody like Struve (future of the HW divison IMO) who does to the HW division what Jones is doing to the LHW. At some point somebody will come along who is far superior to Jones at 205 anyway, if he keeps winning. It's like Dana said; look at 10, 15 years ago when MMA first started, they were good and what not but fighters have just leaped generations and are getting SIGNIFICANTLY better with each, the next generation of fighter will make Jones look like an amateur.

Overeem for HW champ, personally. :)

Cain is the only one at HW who could potentially beat Overeem. If JDS ever meets The Reem, he'll get finished pretty badly.

Obviously nothing is certain, but I think you badly overestimate Reems chances against JDS.

As for Struve, he needs to use his length once he does so he will be a much better fighter, I can't see him being champ but that's not to say it won't happen, this is MMA :)

Well, I don't see where JDS beats The Reem, he definitely doesn't have any grappling advantage whatsoever, nobody on the planet could out-clinch him or keep him down, the only way to beat Reem with grappling is a bottom sub IMO, and JDS' striking is infinitely less dynamic. Pure boxing JDS would win but this is MMA. JDS' MMA isn't better than Reems, nowhere near close.

I didn't mean Struve per sé, although I do think hes great, its the concept of a huge, nigh seven foot fighter who can stay huge for the division, being big for a HW is difficult but when somebody finds out how to do it, along with huge height, they will absolutely lock 265 down.

I beat Cain or Cormier could put him on his back and keep him there, his grappling isn't amazing he is no Werdum he won an ADCC European trials didn't he? I wonder who he actually beat, I bet a bunch of nobodies.

Yes this is MMA striking but I think JDS has way faster hands and is more accurate with them, yes he isn't quite the size of Reem but I don't think Reem can bully him about easily, he is still a big dude.

You have to look at things objectively, who exactly did Reem beat to become rated so highly, a post serious illness Lesnar, who should have retired. An Werdum who got literally uppercutted out of the UFC by JDS are his only real claims to beating ranked fighters.

He KO'd Badr Hari and easily submitted Mark Hunt, something not even Fedor could do. I agree JDS has more impressive opponents in MMA, but the guys Reem has beat within K-1 all strike far better than JDS. Badr Hari and Tyrone Spong for example, would tool JDS in standup. Not disrespecting JDS, but his record isn't very impressive when you consider the fact he's just sprawl and brawled a bunch of grapplers. The only real threat standing he faced was a tomato can Crocop, who landed pretty consistently on JDS and cut him up, and Shane Carwin, who stylistically doesn't stand a chance against a crisp, technical striker.

Not to mention what Overeem did to Rogers, who is far, far bigger and stronger than JDS. Overeem has dominated everyone he's faced since moving up from 205. The only bad fighter Reem has faught has been James Thompson, a lot of the others aren't anything hugely spectacular, but they are fighters to be taken seriously.

I don't think JDS has a better record when styles come into it. After JDS has beat Kongo and Reem, then I'll think hes as legit as everyone claims. I know hes a badass, but the hype is too much.

Rogers whose claim to fame is what? Beating Arlovski at a point where a light gust of wind would knock him out. Have you seen Rogers record recently?

I know Reem beat Badr but then Badr also beat Reem too and again we get back to the fact this is not K1 this is MMA.

Can't wait to see the fight, they need to hurry up and get it sorted.

I feel overeem is great but overated he needs to get in the ring with jds asap ! looks like they want it to happen end of december :)

Id prefer them to have a fight sooner like cain vs jds...

Either way JDS has too much speed and accuracy for any hw, he will simply avoid reems kicks and stay outside the distance and get in with his range with his boxing.

From the sounds of things JDS wants overeem... and so does overeem so it looks like it will hapen but not till december.

I'm with everybody backing JDS here. The way I see things is that JDS is simply too fast for Overeem.

Overeem has better, harder and more diverse striking, but he has been knocked out before and I doubt hes ever been tagged by somebody of the quality of JDS. Speed kills, JDS will be able to find the opening and Overeem will be having a nap.

I used Rogers as an example of strength, the fact he threw Rogers around like he was a bag of wind is incredibly impressive, whats to stop Overeem from throwing JDS across the cage? JDS is one of the weaker heavyweights.

Losing to Badr is far from a bad thing, losing to some fighters can be better than a win against others if your impressive in your defeat, which Reem was. You gotta realise that these K1 strikers are a different breed; just look at Mark Hunt for example, hes one of the lesser K1 guys (I know he won a grand prix) imo yet hes easily in the top 5 heavyweights in the world for striking. Hari, Aerts, Bonjasky etc. are absolute killers who would tool anybody in the UFC with standup, and Reem is on their level.

I'd agree Reem could lose if JDS had an advantage in grappling or on the ground, but he doesn't. JDS is literally fighting an upgraded version of himself, I don't see how he could ever win.

dont let the super hero muscles fool you

I think JDS will knock him out standing eventually, the Reem has showed time & time again he is quite vulnerable, but it can go either way as he can really dish it out too.

I've never really seen JDS pressured and beaten on, so it's tough to call really. If JDS lands that uppercut it's probably over.

Not fooled by Reem's physique, I've followed him since before I watched M.M.A.

If Reem lands the jab, hook, straight, headkick, gets a clinch, or even steps in the cage it's probably over.

;)

JDS beats the Reem 9 out of 10 times for me. Overeem is a very good striker indeed but JDS is far too quick for him and I can see him winning by KO/TKO within two rounds.

I'm a fan of both fighters but I just don't see Overeem being fast enough to beat JDS to the punch and no matter who you are excluding Nelson or Carwin if JDS hits you with one of those uppercuts you are going out.

Good to see Machida win and in a very good way, he has the most chance against Jones out of anyone in the LHW div at the moment. Dan is one of my fav fighters ever but he's far too small for Jones who will destroy him.
