Wanted to do something different for the 10 year milestone I guess. Hate the commentary and the level always seems a bit below UFC but you can get some entertaining fights (apart from the grappling/submission only ones, those are snoozers).

Some decent fights - thought Angela Lee was done after a nasty liver shot but managed to cling on and eventually get the submission in her post-motherhood comeback fight to continue her atomweight dominance. As expected, after surviving the initial kickboxing 1st round as soon as it went to MMA rules in the 2nd, DJ choked Rodtang out first chance he got.

Brendan Schaub said that exact prediction on his show this week.

Got the ufc on this morning here, underwhelming card but some good fights (excluding the first) so far although no stoppages yet. Matt Brown fighting now then hopefully the chicks fight is first round ko :D I think Daukaus bets Blaydes.

Caught the last few fights as I forgot about this one. Nothing too exciting (everyone was raving about the Brown fight but those sort of old-timer slug-fests aren't my thing) - annoying I'm on nights this weekend and not next when there's a card I do want to watch live!

I just watched the event. I agree the womens match was good. Lots of transitions, submission attempts, counter moves.

I think DJ is the best in his weight class. It's a shame we never got to see him move up the divisions in the UFC in his prime. But he showed his skills in this fight again. Weathered the storm for the first round, then went to work in the second.

This really shows what the peoples main event is for UFC 273 - would love to see Chimaev keep the train rolling, but I'm very tempted to put some money down on Burns. Very intriguing match up.

Chimaev is just great, brash and confident, entertaining, but sportsmanlike and respectful....and in the ring he's an absolute animal...can't wait.

Burns is a great match up, he needs to go against a top-class grappler. Burns won't panic when Chimaev swarms him and gets him to the mat....should be a great scrap.

It'll be more competitive than his other fights in the UFC I imagine, but I still think Chimaev will win unless he does something foolish. Burns is LW size (and used to fight there) competing in WW fighting someone who's a natural MW competing at WW. Post weigh-in he'll be significantly lighter, with less height and shorter reach. He always eats jabs to the face too and hasn't got the strongest chin, and we know Khamzat has one-punch knockout power. Expect this may end, or at least the end will begin on the feet.

Burns is going to be a real test of where Chimaev is at. If he runs through him like he has all the other fights he's truly the real deal.
Yeah, I see Burns getting manhandled due to his smaller size, but I then see him being dangerous as hell on the ground when he can use his BJJ. Khamzat needs to get a dominant position and ground and pound to finish the fight quickly... that's if he doesn't get the KO on the feet.

I am rooting for Burns though because he is a legend and such an awesome guy and also because he does not have a brutal and murderous dictator like Ramzan Kadyrov backing him (yeah, the guy helping Putin in Ukraine who gave Khamzat lots of expensive cars as gifts). https://www.mmanews.com/2021/10/the...n-warlord-behind-khamzat-chimaevs-ufc-return/

Really looking forward to this. Clocks changed so prelims 10am start for me. Couple of decent fights on there then the PPV at 12. Obviously Khamzat Burns being the pick, I think Khamzat gets it done but its a great match up. Mackenzie Dern is always nice to watch :)
I think Volk walks through the KZ and finishes him easily. Likewise Yan over Sterling. Few beers then watch the F1. Wife is out all day. Awesome day of sitting on my backside:)

I would be very surprised if Khamzat doesn't win.

It's not only his physicality. But also his strong mental state when fighting. I've noticed fighters often go on the defensive very quickly. I was watching him grappling with Hermansson, whos 6ft 1, and he was throwing him around in the grapples. Hermansson was mostly on the defensive all the time.

Man I am soooo pumped for this UFC, 3 particularly epic matchups! Wil do my usual "go to bed early and wake up 15 mins before it starts" routine. :D

I really really hope Burns beats Khamzat and derails that hype train... I would also like to see an upset from Korean Zombie. Aljo and Yan... I see Jan winning but Aljo is still dangerous on the ground.

Just read that article about Ramzan Kadyrov. Can't say I'm surprised at all really. Plenty of "sports-washing" going on in football and F1, why not MMA too?

As for tonight I'm going:
Volkanovski on points
Yan by TKO
Chimaev however he wants

Annddddd I am up, feeling like the English Zombie until I fully wake up. In the pre-fight advertising blurb there is a good piece about Volkanovskis training routine... wow man they put him through the grinder and prepare him for everything!

I am so pumped. :D
