Chimaev fight was superb, Burns really did well too, really close fight but Chimaev surprised me with his excellent chin.

Not a fan of Sterling and some of this takedown spam is just gross to watch.

Sterling decision had to be based just on round 1 yeah? Can’t see how two of the three judges can give that to him. Maybe that’s why I’m not a judge :D
I don’t mind as I dislike Yan. Commentators pointed it out but weird that people in Florida are chanting his name giving what’s going on in Ukraine. I know sterling isn’t super popular but still, you think he’d be more popular than a Russian right now!

Volkanovski coming out to that land down under song . Aussie sportsmen are such cretins. Can’t see anyone beating him in this division though, especially not the Korean dafty.

Hard to call that third. I think Chimaev gets this decision but can’t see there being complaints either way.

I think Burns took the second personally....but I do think Chimaev was good for the win, but only just. His striking was that more accurate.

Their grappling game just totally cancelled each other out. I don't think that'll be the case with anyone else in the division.

Great test for Chimaev, proved his striking ability, and his chin. Needs to up his conditioning a bit though. Can't finish in one round all the time!

Caught up.

If Chimaev wants to remain unbeaten he’ll need to be smarter trading blows in the stand-up. My hype train has pulled into a station somewhat after that but if he improves his fight IQ it’ll get going again. More experience required before fighting Usman IMO.

Yan didn’t do enough to win the belt back. Unless it’s a total domination over every round a decision always goes against the challenger.

Zombie was already a bit past it and Volk highlighted that, far too easy for him. Don’t see much competition in that weight class currently.

Watching it again the occasion got to him and he was way too amped - went too hard in the 1st, didn’t listen to his corner or executed the game plan they intended. Hopefully he’ll learn some lessons from that insofar as the elite level not being as easy meat as he expected, although he’s clearly got the ability to warrant being up with them. Just needs a bit more brains to go with the brawn.

The most encouraging thing about Chimaev is that he didn't fold when he finally got properly smashed in the face. Always a worry with these guys that have walked through all their early fights.

He got properly rocked several times, never had that look of panic you see sometimes. Took shots in the second that would have put the lights out on many.

Needs to work on his fitness before he goes five rounds though. Definitely went in like all his previous fights, quick shot then swarm them wrestling and ground and pound....burned too much energy in that first minute.

Crazy Burns Vs Chimaev fight, don’t think Colby or Marty have anything to worry about based on that tbh

For all the supposed bad blood Yan Vs Sterling was a complete snooze fest. 22 takedown attempts and scored 2, lol. Abysmal fight to watch.

Volk Vs Zombie a complete mismatch. I can see why he’s called the zombie though he has basically zero defense except blocking shots with his face

Think he beats colby to be honest, colby is too pillow fisted. Colby could out cardio him but I think hamzat was just winging max power every punch this fight. We seen in the third he can fight smartly and not expend that much energy so I wouldn’t worry too much about his cardio.

Usman on the other hand has legit power and if he gets caught like he did this fight could be good night.

deffo needs to fight colby first for the experience.

I’m even more hyped about him now than before. A random dude with just 2-3 fights under his belt in the UFC just out brawled the the 2 welterweight on the planet, who was also stylistically his cryptonite.

I agree. That's why I said 19-19 after round two. Chimaev took the third but was very close. :)

I think Colby beats him in a 5 rounder but then that obviously needs to be a main event. Its probably too big a match up for a fightnight and not big enough for a PPV main event so I guess it's three rounds. Looking forward to it regardless though.

Really enjoyed the main card this weekend. It's incredible how much difference it makes watching the events in front of a live crowd. Hoping the Apex shows are slowly being phased away now.

Having said that, the Florida crowd was one of the strangest I've heard, and that's saying something for Florida! The Burns vs. Chimaev introductions they were booing Burns, despite him being based in Florida and then cheering him by the end! Crazy fight, right man won, Chimaev clearly had his self belief tested, you could see at the end he was caught out by such a step up. I think it's a risk putting him in there with Usman or Covington. He'd be better having a stand-up war with Masvidal or Dias, also means you'd be selling another big non-title fight for him too. I'd expect he'd beat both of them.

Yan and Sterling was close, I had it to Sterling but then I'm a fan of scoring rounds retrospectively. I'd go for 10-10 round 1, 10-8 round two and the rest 10-9 with Yan winning 2 rounds 10-9 giving Sterling the victory. Right man won and they'll need to do it again I think.

Volkanovski is amazing. Such a great mentality.

I don't disagree with the decision as such but I'd argue that round 2 wasn't a 10-8 - for me Sterling dominated the round but had an awful lot of time in control and yet still wasn't able to even come close to ending the fight!

I agree with round 1 being a draw - I think too many judges feel obliged to give each round one way or the other - mind you having said that no-one would have been happy with a draw after the way the first fight ended!

Definitely. A draw would have got a massive negative reaction. At least now there's no disputing who the actual champion is, compared to the mess we were in beforehand.

As for the judging, that's a separate problem, but using an old fashioned boxing scoring system is ridiculous anyway. A lot can happen in 5 minutes. It's especially made worse when there's only 3 or 5 rounds to score.

New job means no more night shifts so it’ll be a catch-up Sunday morning but looking forward to the main event and Chandler vs Ferguson.
Did you used to watch it during work time? Nice one if so :D

I had expected Oliveria to be beaten in his last two fights and they more or less went the same way. He took an early beating, looked like it was close to being over, recovered amazingly, strangled his opponent. I think same will happen again.

I can't really see Ferguson winning this one though. Shame as I've always really liked him. Travesty we haven't seen him at his best against prime Khabib or McGregor.

Not too much on the prelims grabbing me, 10 am start Sunday morning though, what else am I going to be doing? Brian Ortega's absolute hottie of a Mrs is on the early prelims but they wont be shown here.
