**The Official Everything MMA Related Thread**

Here we go, I am so hoping Strickland gets mauled! :D

Please remember not to spoiler it for people watching it later when they wake up... lets be considerate and use spoiler tags to describe fights in any detail. :)

EDIT - Whoah...

Bwahahahaha my dream came true, Strickland schlepped early in the first round, he looked like an amateur compared to Pereira, he just walked forward without doing anything! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA, good times. :D
If you come into the MMA thread morning after a UFC, you're probably gonna read spoilers. I've just finished watching, so now I can come into the thread.....
No spoilers.

A little disappointing, although Izzy fight being a snooze fest no surprise. Ant deny his skill though.

Volk is a beast.

Don't read the panto around fighters, what's Strickland a knob for?

Early prelims were a bit of a snooze fest

Prelims much better, Tavares and du Plessis was a good scrap no idea how Tavares just took that huge knee straight down the pipe, his nose pretty much exploded

That o’malley eye poke was a funny one, didn’t look too bad on the replay but it must’ve done some damage as Munoz was winning imo

Lawler Vs Barberena crazy fight, 150+ significant strikes attempted in the first round from Barberena and a big win as well

Pereira looked absolutely huge, no idea how he’s making 185. Looked a different weight class entirely. Lol @ Strickland he seemed to be complaining about that stoppage, he was done. Beautiful KO, bet @Richdog loved that:p

Volk Vs Holloway another good scrap, love watching Holloway but Volk just too good. Tough for Max now as far as the division is concerned. His best hope is Volk moves up as I can’t see him getting another shot. Terrible cut though, absolutely huge gash. Surprised Volk doesn’t get more number 1 p4p talk because he looks like he could make 135 which is crazy considering how good he is at FW. He could be a 3 weight champ imo.

Main event a bit of a snoozer, Cannonier did a pretty good job of being a punching bag for 5 rounds, jabbed into oblivion. Landed a few good leg kicks but what else other than holding someone against the cage. Easy work for Izzy

I don't get the hate for Strickland either

Was an easy win for Izzy that, dull though. I've said it before on here about him but he seems to have a pretty unique talent for doing just enough to win these fights and take very little damage. He'd probably say its up to the challenger to come and take the belt and I'd agree. Has to be Pereira next for him.
Volk on the other hand, what a beast. Absolute masterclass from him again. Drew a line firmly under that trilogy and he just seems to get better every fight, broke his hand too. Can't wait to see what he does at 155. That division is so strong.

Haha that’s exactly what I do, people are going to talk about results or give the game away in some aspect so just don’t come into the chat until you’ve seen it or don’t mind seeing it.

I pretty much don’t go on Social Media full stop until I’ve watched it if I don’t want it spoiling.

There's a handful of MMA fans and regular posters into this thread. If you wake up the morning after a card as big as this and the first thing you do is come onto this thread I think you have to expect you are going to see something. All I said was that it ended disappointingly. Could have meant anything.

I stay off everything until I’ve watched it, even BBC has the odd spoiler if it’s a big fight.
Me too. The first time I've come into this thread was today after finishing watching it on Sunday evening.

Adesanya has no equal at middleweight, it remains to be seen if Pereira is going to be able to do in MMA what he's done in Kick Boxing, it's definitely the fight to make now though, purely because there isn't really an alternative.

Shame about Holloway. If he'd of won it would have really mixed things up, I'm not sure Volkanovski will be as good at Lightweight if he decides to move up, that division is savage.

that division is savage.
Totally agree. Its getting stronger too, that Jalin Turner is going to be an absolute nightmare for a lot of fighters and just been moved to 13 in the rankings, Fiziev fighting this weekend is a monster too and I think he'll get the win.

As for spoilers in this thread, the Pro Cycling discussion thread has TDF spoilers right through it, I'm watching a day behind due to time differences hence I stay off the thread. We should have a collective agreement, one way or the other :)

Are there any martial artists on here? I trained a bit of Muay Thai for a few months around 10 years ago, and now just started doing BJJ and Muay Thai. I've always had an interest in and wanted to learn, so decided now at 40 it's time to stop putting it off before I'm past it! So far I've been a bit injury-prone having done in my ribs and knee within the space of a few sessions, but I'm hoping that's just bad luck.

I am fine either way I was just trying to be considerate but if no-one cares i'll stfu about it! :D

Mate if you have had multiple injuries within the space of a few sessions then it is obviously zero to do with luck and a direct result of what you are doing in the sessions. You should be careful if you are going from very low activity (in general) to something as physically stressful as MT and BJJ as the body is often not conditioned or flexible enough, especially at 40, to immediately adjust to the sparring and exercises. Take it slowly.

I'm very active in general so there's no problem there, although this has made me look at a couple of areas of my body where maybe my mobility could be better. Just need a bit of time to adjust to this type of training I think, although if I keep picking up injuries then of course I might have to reconsider.

The problem with MMA and BJJ are that even if you are fit they will stress areas of your physique that probably are usually not stressed and introduce ranges of motion you don't usually reach. I am a reasonably fit and in shape guy but if I try a high kick, or anything with that kind of range of motion, I am in pain. My flexibility sucks and my body isn't used to it.

you only think you're fit. years ago i used to play a lot of physical sports, soccer, bit of rugby, hurling (mad irish sport) and considered myself very fit and very strong. then i took up kickboxing......i very very quickly learned my cardio and core strength were not what i thought they were! you need to transition into combat sports slowly, even more so at 40.

Nope not the best, enjoyed the Mullarkey fight, Sherman Vandera was a decent scrap too. Co main and mains a little dull, not surprised Fiziev won though. I'd not be too surprised if Nadal declines his offer.

There were a couple of decent scraps, Johnson (got screwed imo) Vs Mullarkey and Vanderaa Vs Sherman the obvious shouts.

The Borralho fight was a complete snoozefest though. As was the Turcios fight.... if he landed anywhere near the volume he throws he'd be dangerous. He was just whiffing thin air for 90% of his strikes.
