crocop was saying he gave roy so many hard punches and he thought he would have been knocked out so easily.... but yeah hes confirmed this was his last fight hes gonna concentrate on family for now.

He done well but yeah past few years he just was never the same, bjpenn has come so close and some still say hes in his prime but regardless and dispite age if you take so much punishment sometimes it effects you in that way.

I don't think he had mystique, he had been beaten before.

I just think he had already peaked before he came to the UFC, and they got the tail end of his career. He fought in MMA for 6 years before he came to the UFC, and K1 since 1996!

If the Crocop of 2004 had come to the UFC, I think he would have done way better than he has.

Same as Wanderlei Silva really.

It really shocks me that people are saying that Diaz has awful stand up, seriously? Is he a bit one dimensional in that he relys solely on boxing? Yeah, he is, I will give you that. But the whole Stockton Slap thing just works for him, he has bashed up much better strikers than GSP.

As other people have said, GSP's biggest advantage here is on the ground. He has the ability to advance position and keep this fight where he wants it simply down to his awesome wrestling. People say that he should fear Diaz on the ground? This is the guy that took down BJ Penn for 4 rounds and battered him until he couldn't get off his stool to answer the bell for the 5th. Diaz has great BJJ, GSP will have to respect it and be very careful about where he places his arms, making sure he doesnt leave anything hanging out there to be caught, however its going to be much safer for GSP to get on top and work the GnP than it is for him to stand with Nick.

If GSP can train and hang with arguably the best grappler on the planet, I doubt Nick can surprise him with anything:

Completely agree with your above comments Rids.

This x1000. I believe he said in the pre fight press conference next month or year (i didnt quite hear him) will be his 20th year anniversary from his first fight.

If prime Mirko had come to the UFC it would have been such a different story. He had reached his lifetime goal in Pride, he won the Open Weight Grand Prix, he was starting to wind down in his career. Then he came to the UFC, didnt take it 100% seriously and it has shown. Couple that with 6 knee surgeries and he isnt exactly going to be the force he once was.

It always saddens me to think he could have comfortbly been UFC champion even late in his career. If he would have beaten Gonzaga, he would have faught Couture for the title, and we all know Mirko's standup even in a shadow of its former self would have run a train straight through Randy.

He had an absolutely fantastic career, and we should remember him for that, not his decline. For what Mirko has done for this sport, he is a legend plain and simple.

I'm at work so couldn't hear the audio but I know some people who train at RGA and have been there on the couple of occasions GSP has trained there. He apparently cannot hang with Roger in any way shape or form. It's not surprising though, no one can. :p He is still a very very good grappler.

Yeah probably used the wrong wording there. I mean if people like Roger are stating he has very good grappling then it's pretty much fact.

As you say nobody can hang with Roger, the dude is amazing!

I love how everyone knows he wants mount and a collar choke, it's like the first choke you will learn. Yet he still lands it on world champion black belts time and time again!

On another note my Punchtown Karpel Mk2 turned up tonight. Brilliant they are, with my hand wraps on they fit like a glove. The only issue is my little finger just isn't far enough across, might be because the leather is a little stiff. They fit fine everywhere bar the pinky. Oh and they were 30% off from Sports direct.

They do look nice.

My MMA gloves are currently gathering dust as I'm not doing MMA right now, mine were some bog standard cheap ones. But they are still going strong, they are a nice Pride blue :)

I have a gumshield on the way too, should be here with the post. I ordered the shock doctor carbon flex groin guard, that was recommended a few pages back, but the stupid cricket website haven't shipped it yet

I am really enjoying this. I haven't wanted to active this much since the first time I started playing rugby.

I think GSP's plan will be to make Diaz chase him while peppering him with shots. Nick likes to walk people down and he has wickedly accurate hands when he's in range. But one of George's greatest strengths is controlling the distance between the 2 fighters. Plus Nick likes to lead with his face when he's walking in and I can see George landing on him at will then taking the takedowns if they're coming.

It will be interesting to see if Diaz can land enough in the first 2 or 3 rounds to slow GSP's footwork enough to be able to stay in the pocket. If it comes to a tearup Diaz will win imho. It should be a decent fight for all 5 rounds whatever happens, both men have cardio to spare. I think even GSP would be hard pressed to make this one a borefest.

Diaz literally doesn't win this fight for me, apart from a random big shot, which he doesn't even have in his locker. GSP via complete domination, whichever way he chooses (likely a 5 round wrestling/control/ground and pound destruction)

You also need to remember, that historically, Diaz gets schooled by strong wrestlers; the Sherk and Sanchez fights spring to mind. Mix that in with arguably one of the strongest wrestlers in MMA = long night for Diaz. (I realise those fights were a long time ago)

His record is also padded with mediocre fighters in my eyes, he fought well against Daley and showed a granite chin but who else has he beaten? A washed up Frank Shamrock and a BJ who couldn't last longer than 6 minutes? Different kettle of fish against a top 3 P4Per. Don't get me wrong, I think Diaz is a solid fighter, but he's not in the same league as guys like GSP, Condit, Kos ..... Fitch and Macdonald would absolutely maul him as well (substitute lie on for Maul with Fitch)

The UFC hype train will no doubt fool people into thinking he has a shot. Everyone remember them bigging up Jake Shields fantastic stand up game? You know, the one that doesn't exist.

So who's going to 138? Poor card on paper but that doesn't mean much in my opinion.

Paul Taylor vs Anthony Njokuani is off due to Taylor being involved in a car accident on Monday. Which is a huge shame. Was looking forward to that one.

Cro crop was terrible why so few kicks? I thought he had Nelson for a while but his punches aren't strong enough.

Please do not post stupid opinions about Crocop, the man is a legend and years of fighting have absolutely destroyed his body, he went out on his sword against Nelson with his dignity intact and that's more than you can say about a lot of the previous generations MMA champions.

what? roy nelson went 3 rounds on the feet with dos santos. i dont think cro cop didnt finish him cos he wasnt hitting him hard roy can take a punch

Counterpoint: He failed to finish noted bad fighter Dan Hardy

Not for lack of trying though!

Also Nick has notoriously paper thin skin, how messed up was his face after basically maybe 1 and a half rounds against BJ.

GSP will punch him in the face for 5 rounds.

I like Diaz but I see him being stopped by cuts.

If he loses they surely will give him Kos or Fitch, neither of which I see him beating either.

In Strikeforce he fought 0 wrestlers, can't get away with that in the UFC.

I can't see GSP stopping Diaz via anything other than cuts, the only fighters he've stopped in the past 4 years have been lightweights who've moved up - the last welterweight he finished was Hughes 4 years ago.

My money is on GSP to win via decision.
