Update: Finished League 2 with Rusden and Diamonds - Media Prediction 24th I finished 4th. Board and fans very happy.

Lost in playoffs bit gutted. I was offered the Port Vale job who had just been relegated to League 2 so I took that job. Think that I've took Rusden as far as I can and even if we did get promoted we would probably come straight back down as board won't fork up enough money for some quality players.

So lets see how I do with Port Vale

just had an odd one. My board reaction to my first season in charge of Chesterfield has been positive, they are satisfied with my management of the team. They do however quote the first round 0-1 league cup defeat as being a particular highlight??

They have also questioned my loan signing of Chelsea reserves winger Weirauch who has averaged a 7 and is only costing me £150/week!!!!

sounds good mate, i was having a go at making a 4-3-2-1 tactic the other day but it just never seemed to work for me kept getting hit on the break against teams with decent wingers. even setting the full backs to no forward runs they still got caught out a little too often
Won Inter 3-0 in the CL final, and beat Juve 4-3 on penalties.

I was hoping to get Chiellini on the cheap, but as Sevilla offered him a new contract, probably with a higher sell out clause, i had to get in there quick. Luckily i had £46m in the bank, so i met his buyout clause of £31.5m, and his daft wage demands of £110k a week. Which i could afford with a £2m wage budget, thats current at £1.1m, and considering ive just let 15 reserve/U20 players go, thats freed up a good £80k a week for me as well. :p

My aim now is Fabregas or Giovinco. Preferbly the former. :p.

how many different tactics do you guys have?

I started with MK dons in CC League 2 , currently top of the table , 4points clear...

Do you give individual or group team talks?

whats the optimum settings for the "team instructions" and player instructions if any?

Do you find keep all players happy- morale wise? especially when you are on a run?

what about your training scheme, is it light, medium or hard??

please advise

cheers..

P.S. Loving the game, I havent used the patch, should I? why?

I usually have the same formation set out in 4 different ways. Home settings, Away setttings, all out attack settings, ultra defensive.
And then i tweak that for certain players. Like Pirlo/Kaka.

Do you give individual or group team talks?
Depends on the situation. If one player has low moral, did well in the last game, is doing awful compared to the rest of the team, etc; then individual team talks. Otherwise i do a group talk.

Depends on your squad, who's playing and what your overall strengths and weaknesses are.

I rotate every game where i can, bar the keeper. Keeps everyone happy and fresh.

what about your training scheme, is it light, medium or hard??
The game should automatically switch between hard and medium depending on the time of the season.

:).

how bout the rest of you?

i like the idea of having the same formation set out in four different ways...so you can switch between each style depending on your teams performance..

I have the same formation but I just change the attacking level, passing style, tempo and defensive line depending on who I play.

Same here. Although, I always start out with the same formation and settings (I like the idea of my regular players getting familiar with the way we play) then, twiddle with the set-up as the game progresses. That said, I have the luxury of playing Barca, so the quality of players probably mitigates any managerial ineptitude on my part :)

/Ed: And a quick recommendation: Gai Assulin from Barca U19's. AM RLC; two good feet and very young. Just starting my 3rd season with Barca and he is really beginning to bloom into a good player.

aye I do pretty much the same, hardly have any individual mentality settings but if i do these get tweaked also, and the forward runs etc. sometimes if im away to harder teams or even at home to harder teams i dont want my full backs pushing forward leaving me vulnerable to any quick attack

Guy Asulin, managed to get him on the cheap, under £1m.
Takayuki Morimoto is worth looking at. He got 23 goals in my youth team last season. Cost me £750k, and is rated as a good youngster on the FM forums. (also handy if you have a Japanese feeder team=more income because you have a Japanese player).

Done my transfer business though, and im ready for the 3rd season...
Managed to sign....Fabregas! Yes, i managed to get Fabregas! :D

Board give me my new transfer budget (without a new item telling me!?) of £116m, of which i spent £45m up front and £15m over 24 months to get Fabregas!

Still got £66m left to spend.
So im aiming for a few good youngsters here and there.

First team squad now:
GK: Akinfeev / Cudicini.
DL: Chiellini / Pasqual.
DC: Barzagli / Bonera.
DC: Nesta / Tuia.
DR: Cassani / Alves.
MC: Gatusso / Mascherano.
MC: Fabregas / Pirlo.
MC: Ambrosini / Rosina.
AMC: Kaka / Rosina.
AMC: VDV / Gourcuff.
ST: Pato / Gilardino / Amauri.

Inzaghi has retired.
Cafu/Maldini are now coaches.
Brocchi, Oddo & Emerson are out on loan.
Jankulovski, Abbiati & Oliveria wont loan out and no-one will bid for them! Even though they are all set to a good 30%+ lower than their value!

Next target, who im considering buying either in the January transfer window, or at the least the end of the season, is Criscito to replace Nesta.

Then i think i'll start looking for a young replacement for Gatusso & Pirlo, selling them both when they hit 33, because i can still get some good money for them.
I am gonna have to get a replacement for Ambrosini though. Hes 32 now, and although he's still doing well, i dont think i'll get more than a season out of him.

can anyone recommend any decent players in Coca Cola League 2 i should go for?

Currently I am MK dons and need a good Central Midfielder, Left Attacker, and strong centre half...

Please help

thanks

hi guys not posted in here for awhile however i have spent a lot of time developing a version of SCM's tactic.

I have spent the past 3 seasons playing as bayern munich and hit a brick wall in season three using my previously modified version.

anyway i have developed a new version of the tactic, changing a few areas on each player instructions to develop a formation that plays a 5 man defence and 5 man attack.

thesae are my results so far this season as you can see i have not conceded in a number of games

this is the layout of my formation

as you can see very similar to SCM last posting.

My only problem seems to be converting chances however this is a problem throughout FM2008, its something i will look into but want to give this tactic a fair crack of the whip before i do anything different.

anyway if anyone is interested in giving it a run out please post and ill try and upload it.

well tbh boom a lot of trial and error, for me this is a total evolution from fm07 in terms of tactics a much more team based approach and certainly not buying square pegs for round holes has worked fairly well.

you simply cant have the best players and expect them to win in this version without getting a tactic that matches there play and counters the oppositions play.

Personally im not one for 4 different tactics i like a good all rounder that will just work. I play the game for fun and not to spend 2 hours pre game working out a PHD physics equation on how to get the best out of my team against the particular formation im playing against.

for this tactic i simply took SCM's as posted above, i tweaked it massively for season one and 2 where i made it more attacking and suited to the players i had, I removed the back arrow on the right midfielder and made various other improvements, however for season three it wasnt working.

so after reading a lot more threads etc and thinking about it I decided to make a five man attack / five man defend team with counter attacking. the way to do this imho is down to mentality, I have all my defenders now and the DMC on the same mentality, I then have the remaining MC and wingers / forwards on the same attacking mentality.

Previously i had proabably 4-5 different mentality seetings, different for wingers / forwards / defenders and specific to one or two players, however tbh when thinking logically i would get confused playing in a team whereby everyone had different instructions wouldnt you ? therefore i started to think more team based rather than individual based.

In terms of creative freedom I wanted my team to play fluently though so I kept the this on the same on normal setting throughout the team to hopefully cut out show boating but also let player stats do the job naturally rather than forcing them to play.

The biggest difference though is the players, for each position i have a player who is natural in that position, for me playing the a natural AMC in the left MC slot didnt work as although realistically i wanted this guy to be more attacking, he seemed to get a bit lost when it comes to defensive work etc etc this might come down to positioning stats etc, but think about it he has 20 for positioning as a AMC not as a MC, so switching to a MC worked wonders. a natural MC has done wonders, same with the right MC I want him to defend so a DMC here has been fantastic as opposed to an MC.

Up top my left striker is Adriano / Zigic, big strong guys who can hold the ball up whereas my right is a creative type player preferably fast who can get in the box.

I can try and upload this tactic for you to give a go boom, but honestly you need to tweak it to the players in yer team, It may work straight out the box as it were, however im sure you will need to tweak it a bit here and there to get the best out of it for your team :)

any help needed give me a shout !

I only got £8mill for toni and £3.3mill for Klose

the toni transfer was a drunken mistake, however in the second season Klose had personal problems, I let him go on a leave of absence ( a month each) at least 3 times, his value plummeted and when it looked like he needed a fourth i just got rid tbh.

Champshionship Players ?

i'm Southampton, and doing well top of the leauge after 8 games, but can't buy ANYONE! i have some cash in the bank, but really can't find any players that are good enough and want to come to me. my team is thin on the ground!
